Dead by Daylight's Forged in Fog Chapter introduced The Knight and Vittorio Toscano, putting a medieval spin on the game's horror themes. The Knight also brings with him a series of three guards who are able to assist in chase. The chapter was inspired by For Honor, following another smaller collaboration with the other title.
So are The Knight and Vittorio Toscano actually worth it, or would you be better off buying a different Dead by Daylight DLC, like the Saw chapter? Let's dig a little deeper into the Forged in Fog chapter.
Dead by Daylight: Forged in Fog Chapter Review
The Knight's ability uses AI to track down survivors, making him a very unique killer. The Knight's Dead by Daylight ability is not the first to use AI to help the killer attack survivors - The Nemesis' Zombies chase after survivors using AI - but it's definitely a lot more complex than its predecessor.
This is definitely one of the most interesting aspects of the chapter, coupled with both The Knight's and Vittorio Toscano's unique personal perks. While the game does justice to the medieval tone it's going for, it still feels a little out of place in Dead by Daylight, with The Knight's appearance just not screaming "horror."
Dead By Daylight Knight Gameplay
The Knight is able to use his three guards - The Carnifex, Assassin, and the Jailer, in that order - with his Guard Summon power. His power is complex, allowing for lots of unique plays and a relatively high skill ceiling. Add-ons can change his guards' order and have other effects, making him even more powerful and raising his skill ceiling.
The complexity of his ability doesn't make him hard for beginners, though; the AI guards do a lot of work for you in chase, reducing your need to mind-game in many trials. This makes The Knight both a good choice for beginners and veterans in the game, a rarity for killers in the roster.
One issue with The Knight, though, is his many bugs; AI lends itself to just that, and many players have reported bugs since his release. A since-patched issue led players to suddenly be unable to use their ability for the rest of the match, completely ruining their trials. Many of the other bugs with him have been patched, too, but issues seem to pop up with him often.
Dead By Daylight Knight & Vittorio Toscano Perks
The Knight's perks will help him find survivors easily, making both Hex: Face The Darkness and Nowhere to Hide great choices for any build that relies on tracking down survivors. In fact, Hex: Face The Darkness is one of the most popular perks in the game right now, making The Knight worth buying for that. Hubris isn't a tracking perk, but it's just as strong, inflicting survivors who stun you with the Exposed status effect. Survivors often don't have a choice but to stun you to get away, so this can help you land a down once you catch up.
As for Vittortio's perks, Potential Energy is a great perk to help you finish that last generator, since you can essentially save up generator progress to spend on another generator. This perk speaks to the uniqueness of this chapter, even past The Knight's never-before-seen ability. Quick Gambit complements it, allowing teammates to gain more generator progress. Fogwise will reveal the killer's aura when you get a Great Skill Check - with no cooldown, this can be combo'd with perks like Stake Out to help you constantly keep track of the killer.
After hearing about the Forged in Fog chapter, I was curious to see how Dead by Daylight would approach a more medieval style. While the graphics and designs are impressive, it's questionable as to whether they fit the Dead by Daylight branding in a way that actually makes sense. The gameplay and lore are something that won't appeal to everyone, especially with so many bugs, but The Knight's AI ability is a gem that most players will enjoy trying out and mastering.
