The Archthrone of the High Lord, a newly created desert ruin area for the Dark Souls Archthrones mod, offers various challenges, with one of the initial ones being the Chaos Amalgamate boss. If you're yet to face this boss and want some help so you know what to expect upon encountering it, you've come to the right place.
Here, we'll detail how to find and conquer the Chaos Amalgamate boss in Dark Souls Archthrones, along with providing general tips for navigating this new area and defeating the big bad guy in question. So, without further ado, let's dive in.
Dark Souls Archthrones Chaos Amalgamate Boss Overview
The Chaos Amalgamate boss is located inside the Carthus Redmine, which is just to the left of the High Lords Temple (which is on the far north right side of the map), and the same temple you'll need to come back to when facing Necromancer Obediah. There is also a bonfire here that can give you quick access for the boss run against the Chaos Amalgamate.
The boss itself is a large humanoid creature that appears mutated with the flame or chaos crystals excavated from this mine, as well as using a massive pickaxe and sword which are both also mutated into its arms. When it comes to the moves, the boss consists of two phases and uses both physical as well as fire and lava magic to attack you, so let's first break down the beast's attacks before we discuss the best method to make it out of this fight successfully.
Chaos Amalgamate First Phase Attacks
- Pickaxe Swipe - The boss will use his pickaxe to swipe across the ground toward you which ranges between 1 to 3 times depending on the boss's aggression.
- Sword Swipe - The boss will use his blade to swipe across the ground toward you which ranges between 1 to 3 times depending on the boss's aggression.
- Weapon Combo - The boss will use both his pickaxe and sword to pull off a 3 - 4 hit combo that hits quite heavy if you're under-leveled.
- Combo Kick - The boss will execute a short combo (commonly only one strike) and then perform a lunge kick to knock you back.
- Phase Transition Explosion - When the boss reaches half health, it will leap toward the center of the arena causing a small shockwave when it lands, then it will cause a large explosion of fire to emanate from its body that can hit you at a range and signifies its change to phase 2.
Chaos Amalgamate Second Phase Attacks
*All attacks from the previous phase are applicable*
- Pickaxe Slam - The Boss will repeatedly slam its pickaxe into the ground and deal heavy damage if you're caught in any of the slams.
- Lava Splash - The boss will slam both its pickaxe and sword into the ground causing lava to emerge from the ground around you, and getting caught in it can easily eat through your health if you aren't careful.
Chaos Amalgamate Boss Fight Tips
As you can see from the somewhat short list of attacks that the boss utilizes, the fight isn't very complicated, but if you're under-leveled or new to the game, it can catch you off guard, especially the lava on the ground during phase 2. So when it comes to taking on this boss, the name of the game is to stay close and circle the boss as much as possible.
During phase 1, you'll want to be as close to the boss as possible, and when the Chaos Amalgamate begins any of its attacks, either dodge around the boss to get to its back or block the attack, then counter with a few of your hits where possible.
The boss's attack cooldowns are fairly long, so you can get off a few attacks safely, but don't get greedy, as the cooldown times between attacks get shorter as the boss's health gets lower and it gets more aggressive.
This leads into phase 2, where the boss isn't as safe to be around in close range, especially since it's going to be attacking a lot more frequently and its lava attack can easily stun you or kill you if you're already at low health. So here the ideal method is to bait out the boss's attacks from a distance as it will run towards you and attack, then dodge the attack and counter, then back away.
You can attempt to stun the boss as it does stagger fairly easily if you have heavy strike weapons, but for faster players, you can simply move toward the boss's back, get in a few attacks, and then back away. This is arguably the safest way to take on this boss as its back is its weakest spot and all of its attacks are front-facing, with no ability to quickly turn around or counter you if you circle the boss.
Following this advice, you'll easily take down the boss, and while you might die once or twice against it, you'll find with its limited attacks and countermeasures to getting "cheesed" from behind that this boss will go down fairly quickly. Allowing you to move forward on your journey through the Archthrone of the High Lord as well as Dark Souls Archthrones.
