Cyberpunk Edgerunners joined the league of good video game adaptations earlier this year with the release of Season 1 on Netflix. Edgerunners depicted a visually gorgeous metropolis of Night City with morally grey characters faithful to Mike Pondsmith's tabletop universe.
In short, Cyberpunk Edgerunners was a big hit among the fans of Cyberpunk 2077 and anime fans in general, and many have been wondering whether an Edgerunners Season 2 is on the horizon. Sadly, it seems, that's not the case.
Cyberpunk Edgerunners was a standalone work
Cyberpunk Edgerunners Season 2 isn't happening because Edgerunners was a standalone work, at least according to CD Projekt Red's Japan country manager Satoru Honma
In a recent interview with Famitsu, Honma discussed the impact of Cyberpunk Edgerunners on Cyberpunk 2077 and whether a sequel is in the works or not.
"I personally would like to continue to work with Japanese studios to produce more anime in the future, partly because we have received very good feedback," Honma said. "However, just to be clear, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners was planned as a standalone work, so there’s no such thing as ‘we are actually working on Season 2 in the background."

While this may come as disappointing to some, Honma didn't completely rule out the possibility of another Cyberpunk anime in the future. “Even if we could make more anime in the future, I don’t know if it would be Season 2 or something completely different."
For those unaware, Cyberpunk Edgerunners currently have a 100% critic rating on Rotten Tomatoes. The 10-episode anime also breathed new life into Cyberpunk 2077, with the game surpassing more than 1 million concurrent players on Steam several times since its launch.
In its latest Group Strategy update, CDPR announced the sequel of Cyberpunk 2077, codenamed Orion. While no release window has been confirmed, fans could expect an Edgerunners-style anime to release alongside or after the sequel's launch.
