The Skill Tree system is one of the most common in-game features, as it provides players with a visual representation of all abilities or skills they can unlock. These abilities or skills can aid the game's protagonist by customizing their combat skills, enhancing their gear, equipment, and tools, or increasing their Health Bar and Inventory.

Creatures of Ava has a Skill Tree system in play, which is locked behind a quest early in-game for players to acquire new skills and enhancements by completing in-game activities to earn research Points. This informative guide explains the Skill Tree system, including how to unlock it, earn Research Points, and which skills to unlock in Creatures of Ava.

What Is The Skill Tree And How To Unlock In Creatures Of Ava?

As mentioned earlier, Creatures of Ava boasts a Skill Tree system, giving Victoria access to a broad selection of valuable skills that will aid her throughout her journey. The system also includes unique enhancements for multiple tools and spells and special skills acquired through the game's story questline, which aims to make progression more efficient.

The Skill Tree becomes available for players to access near the completion of the "The Songs of Ava" quest, where they can unlock new skills and enhancements using Research Points. Regarding Research Points, these are the game's take on skill points, which are earned through various means and can be spent to acquire these skills and enhancements.

Some of the skills and enhancements also require other items found through exploration or during quests, which we'll discuss later in this guide. While there isn't much variety of skills that Victoria can obtain, a few are more valuable than others and, therefore, worth investing in when spending Research Points.

Accessing the Skill Tree can be done by pressing the TAB key or the Guide button and scrolling to the Skill Tree tab, where they can find the entire Skill Tree, skills available to unlock, Research Points, and more. These skills are split into categories: The Nafitar, Tools, Spells, Attributes, and Story, each with specific unlocking requirements like the Research Points needed to acquire them.

How To Get Research Points In Creatures of Ava?

As discussed earlier, Research Points are the game's skill points that players can acquire in various ways in-game. While the game doesn't explicitly state how players can earn Research Points, thus making it quite confusing for many, this guide aims to make things more transparent.

For players wondering or looking for answers, completing or doing specific in-game activities can net players Research Points, which, the earliest, is taking pictures of creatures during the "Welcome to Ava" quest. Likewise, completing this quest is the earliest way to earn Research Points, for which earning more will be needed to unlock new skills and enhancements.

Below, we've listed all the ways players can earn research Points in Creatures of Ava:

  • Completing Main Quests
  • Taking pictures of creatures and character NPCs
  • Discovering memos and tablets
  • Completing Rescue Quests by saving creatures
  • Finding and capturing Wind Chimes
  • Locating Censers
  • Investigating local sites and the Antaris Statues

The Research Points acquired vary depending on the activities players complete, but completing Main Quests will guarantee players the skill points. Taking pictures of creatures and character NPCs is a once-off, so the first time they discover or meet them, they can snap a picture of the first encounter and grab the skill points.

Best Skills To Unlock And Upgrade In Creatures Of Ava

Once players have unlocked access to the Skill Tree, they can view the skills available and unavailable and the Research Points they've accumulated thus far. Plenty of skills and enhancements exist, but some have been highly prioritized over the rest, which should be worth the long-term investment for players.

The Overcharged I and II Skills are the best and earliest skills players must unlock once they have enough Research Points, as these skills are for the Nafitar staff. While Overcharged I increase the absorption power but at the cost of a hefty Mana cost, Overcharged II further increases the absorption, removing corruption from Witherblossoms and infected creatures much faster.

The Roll Skill is under the Tools skills category, which lets Victoria avert crisis by rolling away from incoming attacks from infected creatures. Only needing one Research Point to unlock, we highly recommend players unlock the skill once they've accumulated enough skill points to get this skill along with a few others.

We've discussed in a separate guide that Victoria can find Healing Brews throughout the world but also craft them with the recipe and required ingredients. The Crafting Expert Skill makes this more efficient when creating a consumable perfectly through a mini-game; she'll gain two bonus items or one item if they complete the mini-game correctly.

As Victoria will be using her camera frequently when conducting research through the major regions of Ava, there are times when they can miss valuable items in the open world. Combining this notion and the camera's utility is the Item Detector Skill, which first makes the tool vibrate if an item is nearby but also detects nearby items and marks them through walls and other obstructions.

The Concentration Skill is another skill related to the camera tool, which makes capturing infected creatures much easier while avoiding being attacked frequently. While we've found a creative way to mitigate this by standing on a rock, this skill focuses the camera lens and slows down time to capture infected creatures easily.

Lastly, we've paired the Beam and Chain Unchained Skills together as they best work together, not against each other, making the Nafitar staff more powerful when used. The Beam I and II Skills enhance the staff's absorption power to remove corruption quicker, but the Chain Unchained Skill lets them chain multiple infected creatures simultaneously, meaning with the Beam Skills, they can cleanse multiple infected creatures much faster.
