For James "Clayster" Eubanks, this is his second world championship, as well as back-to-back tournament wins after a testing 1400-day drought. His teammates, however, are enjoying the glory of their first ever world championship ring. Tyler "Abezy" Pharris and Chris "Simp" Lehr started this year underage and unable to compete at the highest level, but they quickly assimilated into the eUnited team and pro scene and have become arguably two of the most talented Call of Duty players we've ever seen. Twins Alec "Arcitys" Sanderson and Preston "Prestinni" Sanderson are also celebrating their first world championship win, having placed top 6 and fourth in 2017 and 2018 respectively.
The run to the grand final was a dominant one from eUnited, who consistently looked like the best team in the game. A close 3-2 win over Evil Geniuses in Round 2 looked a test, but they remained in control throughout their wins against Units, OpTic Gaming and 100 Thieves, eventually taking down 100T in a 3-2 scoreline.
The first map was a dominant showing from eUnited, winning 250-126 and hardly giving 100 Thieves room to breathe. They were hot from the off and, although in the early stages of the map 100 Thieves managed to pick up some points to bring it closer, they really never looked to be in any position of power.
In the Search and Destroy, eUnited took a 3-1 lead before 100 Thieves managed to pull it back, winning five straight to bring the series to a 1-1 tie.
Map three took to Frequency Control, and 100 Thieves were one life away from 3-0 sweeping it. eUnited managed to respond with a round but it wasn't enough, as they dropped the map and went down 2-1.
The fourth map was a close one, but eUnited got the better of 100T and won 250-219, bringing the series to a game five. 100 Thieves were looking to reset the bracket, eUnited were looking to win their championship.
Arsenal Search and Destroy, Simp's playground, was never going to go 100 Thieves' way. They put up a fight, but ultimately eUnited got the better of them and won 6-4, taking home the trophy.
All eyes now look ahead to 2020 and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. With a franchised league worth tens of millions of dollars looming, fans (and investors) will be hoping for an equally exciting season to come.
