Players will need to upgrade their weapons within Modern Warfare 3 Zombies to progress through the map; default weapons are going to get you killed when heading into both the orange and red zones. Fortunately, there's a straightforward method to upgrading your weapons.
MW3 Zombies: Weapon Rarity Explained
Upgrading your weapons in Modern Warfare 3 Zombies requires players to obtain an "Aether tool." Each weapon has a separate rarity level, indicated by the color of the weapon in the bottom right of the screen shown above. The colors indicate the following:
- Common (Grey) - weapons players deploy with, no damage bonus
- Uncommon (Green) - weapons with 50% damage bonus
- Rare (Blue) - weapons with 100% damage bonus
- Epic (Purple) - weapons with 200% damage bonus
- Legendary (Orange) - weapons with 300% damage bonus
- Ultra (Gold) - Wonder weapons; Wunderwaffe DG-2, Ray Gun, and the Scorcher
Weapons with high rarity can be found without having to be upgraded, but you can also upgrade them yourself.
Modern Warfare 3 Zombies: How To Upgrade Your Weapons
To upgrade your Weapons in Modern Warfare 3 Zombies, complete the following:
- Identify your weapon's rarity (common, uncommon, rare, etc.)
- Find an Aether Tool that provides an upgrade higher than your current weapon
- Head into your inventory whilst holding the weapon you wish to upgrade
- Select your Aether Tool and click "use."
- Your weapon will now be upgraded.
After upgrading your weapon, you will notice high changes in the damage it provides and deals to enemies. Note, once you upgrade your weapon to "Legendary" status, you will not be able to progress onto "Ultra" — that tier is reserved for Wonder Weapons.
Players who struggle to find Aether Tools can locate them here:
- Shooting and destroying flying purple orbs
- Completing various contracts throughout the map
Players can purchase weapons with the "Legendary" status straight from the walls in the Tier 3 location, reducing the need for aether tools if you're struggling to find them.
