Modern Warfare's Gunsmith option has always provided an exciting and riveting weapon modification experience, with players feeling like they're building a weapon themselves. Heading into the Modern Warfare 3 cycle, the developers have made even more great changes to the Gunsmith.
MW3 Multiplayer: Gunsmith Explained
Sledgehammer Games and Beenox have added statistical depth for players who desire the finest incremental data for every weapon attachment and modification. Unlike previous Moden Warfare titles, this year's Gunsmith takes modification to the next level.
Players are now able to filter different weapon attachments to suit their needs, whether they want an attachment that deals more damage and range, or improves handling and accuracy. This filter has been implemented to save players time and grant the best attachments instantaneously.
It's important to note that Weapon Tuning has been removed from Modern Warfare 3. This is simply because the new implementations of attachment data and statistical knowledge have rendered weapon tuning useless.
MW3 Multiplayer: Gunsmith Modification Changes
Modern Warfare 3's Gunsmith features several new changes to how they specify attachments' positives and negatives, which is rather confusing. As seen in the "PROS" and "CONS" columns above, the icons refer to these meanings:
- Single chevron: A minor PRO or CON.
- Double chevron: A moderate PRO or CON.
- Triple chevron: A strong PRO or CON.
- Polygonal arrow: A new function of the mod.
In the example image above, the thermo-optic X9 dramatically reduces aim down sight speed. This new way of portraying weapon attachments' pros and cons allows you to easily see how advantageous or disadvantageous a particular attachment feature affects your weapon, which is new for MW3.
This year's Gunsmith is attempting to represent as much data as possible in a simplistic manner, allowing players to understand exactly how their weapon functions when changing each attachment.
