We're in the final stretch leading up to the release of Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, and as expected, Activision and Treyarch are making some last-minute adjustments. One of these changes affects the returning Zombies mode, specifically the reintroduction of the GobbleGum system and its return to being purchasable.

Let’s dive into the details surrounding Treyarch’s decision to make GobbleGums available for purchase again, and why fans have some legitimate concerns about this change as the launch of Black Ops 6 approaches.

Fans Raise Concerns About Balance in the GobbleGum System for Black Ops 6 Zombies

As stated in the recent blog post detailing Zombies Intel, players can acquire GobbleGums in various ways: "GobbleGums are earned in a variety of ways, including simply by playing Zombies and surviving rounds, or by Store purchase." While this system allows players to both earn and buy GobbleGums, fans have raised concerns about its fairness.

Obtaining certain rare GobbleGums can be the difference between a failed run and success. Although players can earn GobbleGums by playing, those who purchase them may have a slight advantage.

This has sparked a lot of discussion on social media, with many fans voicing their frustration. For example, when CharlieIntel shared the news, players flooded the comments section with their thoughts.

“Can’t wait to have to buy a 20-dollar skin pack that includes Woods in a weed ghillie suit with a Galaxy gas AK just to get a Perkaholic,” one player joked. Another added, “Game’s not even out and it’s already pay-to-win.”

Some fans questioned the specifics of Treyarch's approach, with one asking, “That’s not good. 'Earn by playing' is easy to say, but what exactly will that entail? How hard will they be to earn, and how ridiculously rare will the most valuable GobbleGums be?” And another saying "At least they're seemingly being generous with giving them out for free but we won't know until the game comes out".

These concerns are valid. Even if you can earn GobbleGums in-game, the drop rates might not match up to players who can buy them, potentially giving paying players an edge. Perhaps Treyarch will address this by limiting the type or rarity of purchasable GobbleGums, but there’s no confirmation yet on how the system will work in the store.

For now, we'll have to wait for more details on how GobbleGums will function in Black Ops 6 Zombies. Hopefully, the system won’t slide into "pay-to-win" territory. As soon as more information is released, we’ll be sure to keep you updated.
