André Øvredal will direct the Bendy and the Ink Machine movie, the franchise announced today on X/Twitter after over a week of teasers. Øvredal is the director behind Trollhunter, The Autopsy of Jane Doe, Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark and The Last Voyage of the Demeter.
"I'm so excited to be directing Bendy and the Ink Machine," Øvredal said in a video accompanying the announcement, which was posted on Halloween day. "I promise we're going to make a really special movie, something that all the fans are going to love. Something that honours the fantastic characters, fun worlds, and everything we all love about the Bendy games."
He held up a Bendy plush as he spoke, offering even more hope for fans: "This guy is going to grace the big screen very soon."
Series creator TheMeatly has previously suggested that the movie will use both CGI and practical effects to depict its characters and environments. "I’m aiming for a combination of both practical effects and CGI polish to pull it all together," he wrote in a September X/Twitter post. "We are working with creative people who tend to feel the same."
TheMeatly has also expressed his hopes that the movie won't be "trendy," and instead should be a "timeless horror film that can be enjoyed for years to come and stand on its own."
With the Bendy and the Ink Machine Movie's director confirmed, it's likely fans will hear more information about the upcoming film sometime pretty soon.
