Battlefield 2042 is releasing a brand new map, battle pass, weapons, gadgets, vehicles, and a free game access period upon the release of Season 6, known as Battlefield 2042 "Dark Creations." Releasing on the 10th of October, Dark Creations is hitting the Battlefield platform with nostalgia, with the new map known as "Redacted" replicating an incredibly similar feeling to Operation Locker and Operation Metro from Battlefields Three and Four. This is exactly what Battlefield 2042 has needed after its bumpy start; reverting to what they know works and players love.
Releasing alongside all this epic new content is the unsettling backstory behind the season that appears to heavily match the aesthetic and theme of Halloween. This season, our No-Pats are heading to a research facility Located in Outer Hebrides, Scotland, harboring a disturbing secret. That secret involves incredibly strange activity that appears to have affected soldiers, unfortunately, we're the unlucky bunch that has to visit this research facility and investigate.
Battlefield 2042 - Season 6 Map Details
Redacted is a close-quarters, non-vehicle, claustrophobic map inspired by Operation Metro and Operation Locker. This tight and confined map is the first in the series set completely indoors and you’ll need to use tight corners to ambush your foes. This leads to fighting ridiculously intense, fast-paced, and overwhelming battles regularly, leading to players being engaged in a constant fight with almost no "cool down," being the iconic Operation Metro and Locker experience.
Considering the map is completely indoors, players can expect to feel squashed and trapped within the map Redacted. This often leads to a constant battle between friendly and enemy forces, with players constantly being at each other's throats with very minimal opportunities to flank or loop around the back and ambush. Battlefield has attempted to make players feel as airless and confined as possible, amplifying the aggression of all combat situations.
Redacted makes its backstory very known, with the map being littered with links to violent scientific testing and experimentation gone wrong, whether that's from walking past bloodied testing rooms to overgrown biomes within the facility. The map makes its character incredibly intimidating, through dark hallways and bleak backrooms, players never quite know what's lurking around the corner.
Battlefield 2042 - Season Six Weapons
Three new weapons are hitting player arsenals within the Battlefields Season Six update, allowing players to learn and enjoy new weapon mechanics on the new map Redacted. The three new weapons are an assault rifle, sidearm, and designated marksman rifle, likely being the most ideal selection out of all weapon categories. Here are the following weapons:
- Assault Rifle: VHX D3
- Designated Marksman Rifle: G428
- Sidearm: L9CZ (semi-automatic)
The brand new assault rifle known as the VHX features a smaller and more compact build than the regular assault rifle, making the weapon ideal for closer to medium-range engagements. It becomes apparent that the VHX D3 is optimized for portability, giving those faster-paced players a brand-new toy to enjoy. The L9CZ semi-automatic pistol looks like a modernized version of a Glock-19, with it being highly accurate at longer distances and being a loyal companion for anyone looking to hit the recon role with a sniper rifle.
Finally, the G428 Designated Marksman Rifle offers players a heavy-hitting alternative for players to explore at longer distances. Perhaps a player is hassling you from afar or taking out nearby teammates, the G428 will display no fault in ridding enemies quickly and efficiently.
Battlefield 2042 - Season 6 Battle Pass and Gadgets
Battlefield 2042 comes alongside an action-packed season pass, offering players over 100 tiers of rewards, weapons, vehicles, and gadgets that are earnable without even purchasing the season pass! With season 6, Battlefield is introducing the battle pass ultimate pack, a new option for the battle pass that will allow you to progress through the pass faster with tier skips and will also grant you exclusive skins. Battlefield is releasing three separate variants of the Battle Pass for players to choose from, the free, premium, and ultimate versions of the pass.
Each pass will contain its benefits superior to the prior, with the free version offering slightly less than the premium, and the premium offering less than the ultimate pack. Players who purchase the premium pack will be entitled to nineteen new weapon skins, thirteen new specialist skins, XP boosters, seven new vehicle skins, and five new weapon charms. Players who obtain the ultimate pack will be offered exclusive cosmetics, twenty battle pass tier skips, and an exclusive weapon skin known as the "Edge Detection."
Alongside the Battle Pass are new gadget implementations, with players now being able to carry portable medical and ammunition drops. When throwing the drops onto the floor, nearby players will be able to collect medical supplies to heal or ammunition to help them stay within the fight. These new gadgets will enable players to recover from almost every combat situation and these gadgets are going to heavily affect how people play Battlefield 2042 with the new gadgets.
Battlefield 2042 - Vehicles and Gameplay Updates
Battlefield 2042 Season 6 is also releasing a brand new vehicle known as the YUV-2 “Pond Hawk,” which is a two-person transport motorbike drone, that moves quickly across the battlefield and is perfect for getting in and out of scrapes quickly. The Pond Hawk is the perfect choice for escaping tight situations and fleeing the battlefield. Unfortunately, the Pond Hawk will not be playable on the map Redacted due to the inability to use vehicles on the new map.
Battlefield Season 6 Dark Creations will bring a host of fixes and improvements to help make Battlefield 2042 an even more enjoyable experience, some of these changes include Aim assist enhancements for console players, vehicle handling improvements, and Recon balancing.
For vehicles, Battlefield 2042 has improved the driving player experience by tweaking tank turning and vehicle speed and adjusting gravity for land vehicles in the air. On top of ground vehicle improvements, Battlefield 2042 has updated the Jet handling experience, improving the functionality of flight gameplay.
Aim Assist has been improved for console players to improve cross-play fairness. This ultimately keeps a safer and more equal playing field between console and PC, making sure everyone has the same advantages. Finally, the Recon role has received some balancing, with the rework for Rao's hacking tool so it will no longer block firing on vehicles. Battlefield has also tweaked Rao's hacking ability so that when a hacked enemy has been killed, information on all soldiers nearby will be briefly revealed. There has also been an adjustment to Casper's recon drone and the EMP grenade to match the new hacking behavior.
