Baldur's Gate 3 allows you to be whoever you want to be within the confines of Dungeons & Dragons and be friends with whoever you want to be, but there's a certain character hidden away in Act 1 of Baldur's Gate 3 that you absolutely have to recruit if you don't want to regret your life decisions towards the end of the act. That's right, we're talking about Scratch the Dog.
Where To Find Scratch The Dog In Baldur's Gate 3
Scratch the Dog can be found just outside of the Blighted Village, inside a Forest. If you have somebody in your party that can use the spell 'Talk With Animals' or a potion that can grant you that ability, then you need to get that character to use that ability or drink that potion. You can then talk to Scratch, and explain to him the truth about his situation (which we won't spoil). If you tell him to follow your scent then he'll appear at your camp within a few days and you can interact with him, petting him and making him feel wanted in your party.
Best of all, if you keep using 'Talk with Animals' then you get brand new dialogue from him throughout the game, and if you also recruit the Owlbear Cub that you can find in the Goblin Camp (provided you earlier found the Owlbear Cavbe close to the Blighted Village), then you'll get special dialogue trees and events relating the pair of them.
