Over the years, there have been few series as popular as Ubisoft's Assassin's Creed. The legendary games follow a scintillating storyline teetering on the blurred lines of fiction and reality, resulting in one of the greatest RPGs of all time.

From the ancient streets of Rome to the Norse Viking Age, all the way through the American Revolution, Assassin's Creed titles offer some of the most unique storylines, allowing for players to alter the course of history. The series has long been recognized as one of the greatest of its generation, and now the accolades are set to follow.

Almost 15 full years since the release of the first Assassin's Creed, the original title is set to be enshrined into legendary status. Catch up on all the breaking news here after it was revealed that Assassin's Creed has been nominated for the World Video Game Hall of Fame.

The first Assassin's Creed follows the storyline of the legendary assassin, Altaïr Ibn-La'Ahad. Players begin the title as Desmond Miles in a modern-day world, before being abducted and forced into the Animus machine, which then takes players into the memories of their assassin ancestor, Altaïr.

Set during the Third Crusade, Altaïr loses his Master Assassin status after going rogue and failing his assignment in the opening scenes of the game. Players are then tasked with climbing the ranks once again from novice to Master Assassin.

The journey takes players throughout the Holy Lands, uncovering a grand conspiracy that reveals that Altaïr's greatest enemies are much closer than first suggested. It's safe to say AC1 was generations ahead of its time, as it's still an enjoyable play nearly 15 years since it first debuted in 2007.

While AC1 has long been lauded within the inner circles of gaming, the title looks like it's now set to get its fair shine. That's because of the reason just announced to AC social media outlets, Assassin's Creed has been nominated to join the World Video Game Hall of Fame!

From performing that first leap of faith to exploring the mysteries of the Holy land, Altaïr's journey will forever be enshrined into video game greatness, taking its rightful place amongst the other top titles of its time. And it's fantastic timing for both fans of the series and Ubisoft alike.

Though we may be all the way to AC Valhalla: The Dawn of Ragnarök, neither players nor the game's developers should ever forget the Assassin's Creed roots that made us fall in love with the enchanting series in the first place.
