At The Game Awards 2022, Elden Ring developer FromSoftware revealed its next AAA title - Armored Core 6. While fans were excited by the prospect of a new mainline entry in From's third-person Mecha game series, the cinematic trailer revealed little to nothing about the game itself.
Now just weeks after its grand reveal, game director Yamamura has revealed new information about Armored Core 6, including some prominent gameplay and story details.
New Armored Core 6 story and gameplay details revealed
In an interview with IGN Japan, Yamamura discussed the campaign of Armored Core 6, suggesting that it will be a much tighter missed-based experience rather than a full-fledged open world like Elden Ring.
Yamamura also talked about how Armored Core 6 is a reboot for the franchise and is not directly connected to any previous games in the series. While this makes this latest entry an ideal entry point for newcomers, fans shouldn't expect this to be a walk in the park. Like previous FromSoftware titles, Armored Core 6 will feature a dark and catastrophic world with challenging combat.
Speaking of combat, Miyazaki, who served as the game director at the initial stages of development, discussed the customization in Armored Core 6. Like previous games in the series, Armored Core 6 will feature mecha customization with much more freedom in assembling the mecha and choosing the right equipment. In other words, much possibilities for build crafting.
Armored Core 6 features PvP only multiplayer; No co-op
Yamamura also talked about the game's multiplayer mode, stating that it's limited to the battle mode like in the previous titles. Furthermore, there's no co-op in Armored Core 6, as the team wanted to deliver a rich story based experience and intense action based combat that was only possible in a single-player only title.
Speaking of single-player, Sekiro, From's last single-player-only title, was helmed by Yamamura as well, and fans have been wondering how much of an impact that game has had on the development of Armored Core 6.
While thematically there are no similarities, Yamamura revealed that Armored Core 6 will feature Sekiro's deflection mechanic, as well as aggressive and dynamic boss battles. As for the combat itself, fans could expect a mix of gunfights and mecha melee combat.
