Armored Core 6 Release Date
Update: Armored Core 6 has an official release date of 25 August 2023.
FromSoftware formally announced Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon during The Game Awards 2022, showcasing a trailer and confirming that the game will be released in 2023 on Xbox Series X, PS5, and PC. The game will be published by Bandai Namco.
The announcement at The Game Awards is notable because an Armored Core game has not been made in over 10 years. The last game to be released was Armored Core V, which the developers released all the way back in 2012 during the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 era.
Armored Core 6 Gameplay Explained
So far, the only clues as to the gameplay comes from an official Bandai Namco press release, which reads:
"In ARMORED CORE VI FIRES OF RUBICON, players will be able to freely move through massive three-dimensional environments with rapid maneuverability while experiencing visceral vehicular combat. Signature to FromSoftware's carefully crafted game design, the game will feature challenging and memorable battles along with a fulfilling progression system and deep gameplay, all of it now powered by assembling mechs and going into combat with massive bosses. Players will recognize the sense of satisfaction and achievement when they overcome a difficult situation and relish momentary victory, and perhaps a boost to their standing, before encountering the next challenge."

Will Armored Core 6 Have 'Soulslike' Combat?
Following its initial reveal, FromSoftware's Hidetaka Miyazaki spoke with IGN for an exclusive interview and confirmed a few interesting details about the development of the game.
For one, Miyazaki mentioned that the Fires of Rubicon won’t “just be a sci-fi Soulslike", which might be a relief for those who struggle with soulsborne style games.
Going further, Miyazaki explained that the studio has “not been making a conscious effort to try to direct [Armored Core VI] towards more Soulsborne type gameplay.”
That said, it sounds as though the essence of Soulsborne games will still be keenly felt in the moment-to-moment gameplay and boss battles
“Boss battles are the highlight of the game in this title,” director Masaru Yamamura told IGN in a statement.
“The essence of the battles, in which the player reads the enemy's moves and then plays games with them, is of course provided, as is typical of FromSoftware. In this title, both the enemy and your own machine are aggressive and violent in their attacks. We are developing the game so that players can enjoy the dynamic and intense boss battles that only mechas can offer, along with the unique aspects of AC, such as how to assemble the right parts to take on the strongest enemies.”
