Nintendo caused some outrage in December 2024 after the Japanese publisher quietly delisted a tactical RPG from the Nintendo eShop without much explanation at the time of its removal. Publisher Square Enix posted a statement regarding the delisting of Triangle Strategy, similar to when Octopath Traveler was delisted before its listing was reinstated a few months later.
Ironically, the tactical RPG mimicked events surrounding Octopath Traveler's temporary delisting, as it has been restored and is now available for players to purchase via the Nintendo eShop. Square Enix broke the news on social media recently to confirm the game's availability again on Nintendo's digital storefront.
Triangle Strategy is a tactical RPG co-developed by Square Enix and Artdink and was released exclusively for the Nintendo Switch in 2022 until it was delisted from the Nintendo eShop in December 2024. Square Enix released a statement following the game's delisting stating that players who have purchased the game could still access it as they would continue "working" on making it available "and will update when the game can be purchased again."
That update was announced on 6th January 2025 on Square Enix's official Twitter account as the publisher kept their promise, revealing that Triangle Strategy has been relisted on the Nintendo eShop, thanking players for their support. It's important to note that the game's delisting only impacted the Nintendo Switch platform, as the game is readily available on PC via Steam and on VR devices for the Meta Quest 2, 3, and Pro; the latter became available in October 2024.
For players who are unfamiliar with Triangle Strategy, this tactical RPG isn't quite like other prominent party-based and tactical games like Divinity: Original Sin, the Fire Emblem series, and the Baldur's Gate series as it would political intrigue, plenty of betrayals and shocking death sequences. The game's story begins in Norzelia and expands across the three major cities; there are plenty of unique characters to encounter, multiple locations to visit and explore, many stories and rivalries to follow, and cultures and traditions to experience, and experience players can on PC, VR devices and Nintendo Switch.
