MultiVersus is showing a ton of promise so far as the Closed Beta comes to an end this week, but with so many pricing options to enter, many players are wondering if the game is free-to-play. Even the Closed Beta itself had a couple of different ways to enter.
If you head to most store options, like the PlayStation Store or even Steam, different editions of the game will appear for numerous price points. Each pack will cost money, but it doesn't tell the full story of free-to-play in MultiVeruses.
MultiVersus - Is the game free-to-play?
MutliVersus is a free-to-play game for anyone that wants to join in the chaotic fun. When the game reaches the open beta period, everyone will get to download and access it. The open beta period will begin on July 26 and this will also be considered the soft launch going forward. There is no set date to leave open beta just yet.
The current closed beta period, also known as early access, may have caused some confusion to access MultiVersus, despite the free-to-play designation. Tons of people are playing without there being a way to download the game. There are two methods that these players must have followed in order to gain access.
- WB Games announces $100k MultiVersus Evo tournament

- Ninja admits Nintendo halted plans to add $500k pot to Smash at Evo

First and foremost, there are a few different founders pack editions that can be purchased. Each one of them will grant access to the closed beta period, which only lasted for one week. The packs range from $40 to $99 at the highest. Character unlock tokens and some cosmetics are the main contents of the packs.
Access to the closed beta could also be earned by watching an hour of Twitch. As long as the channel has drops enabled, and you have your own Twitch account, then you can claim the code for use on the platform of your choice.
Going forward, there will be an option to download MultiVersus as free-to-play. That option didn't exist before July 26. You can still pay for Founders Packs if you wish to get the contents, but they aren't necessary for enjoying or participating in the game.
As for the platforms that MultiVersus can be played on, the major options are all available. Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, PlayStation 4/5, and Windows PC are all platforms involved. The best news is the game is also cross-play and cross-progression. Overall, there is a ton of access to the game after the closed beta.
