Metroidvania-meets-zeldalike game Crypt Custodian is coming to PC and consoles on 27 August, developer Kyle Thompson announced. The upcoming title was first revealed by publishers Top Hat Studios during this year's Guerilla Collective showcase, with a summer release window.
Crypt Custodian features "a mischievous cat who has just died and landed in the Afterlife's Palace," and shortly after finds themselves doomed to be the janitor of the Afterlife forever. As they make themselves at home, they'll meet fellow doomed spirits, take place in tense battles, and explore the vast landscape "filled with curious and fun denizens, hidden secrets, and seemingly infinite nooks, crannies, and curiosities."
Crypt Custodian is Thompson's third title, following Sheepo and Islets, which were both Metroidvania games. The game will "build on the successes" of those games, and hopes to be its developers "magnum opus." It promises to be a "vivid evolution in terms of presentation, mechanics, and complexity from his prior critically acclaimed titles."
Crypt Custodian will have a global launch, will be available on PC, Nintendo Switch, PS5, PS4, and the Xbox family. The game will feature multi-language support, too, including English, French, German, Spanish, Portugese, Russian, Simplified & Traditional Chinese, Japanese, and Korean.
