If you grew up in the 90s, you might remember Chex Quest, a total conversion DOOM mod which was once packed into cereal boxes. This weird, loveable mod was based on Chex, the breakfast cereal, and released all the way back in 1996. Coming "this Summer" which is Winter in the UK, the Chex Quest HD will release on Steam, and will be completely free for everyone to play.
The game's Steam page is now live, so you can add Chex Quest HD to your wishlist.

The Chex Quest HD was announced back in 2016, but since then, we've heard very little about the game. It will be the first Steam publishing credit for an American food manufacturer, General Mills.
Chex Quest HD will feature two-player multiplayer, six unlockable characters, and the weird yet wonderful singleplayer champaign. For those who never played the original DOOM mod, it tasks players with freeing the galactic citizens of Bazoik from the evil, cereal-eating Flemoids.
A description of the upcoming free game reads:
"The Intergalactic Federation of Snacks' outpost on the remote planet of Bazoik has been overrun by evil cereal-eating creatures from another dimension! These slimy 'Flemoids' have taken the citizens of Bazoik captive and it is up to you and the Chex Mix Squadron to free them. Thankfully you have a handy array of 'zorching' devices which can send these invaders back to their home dimension so you can succeed in your mission."

Yes, Chex Quest HD might sound extremely weird, but if the original total conversion DOOM mod is anything to go by, then it will be a whole lot of fun. There are five single-player levels to play through. Just like in the original mod, the game is an FPS, and is suitable for all ages.
Best of all, it will be an entirely free game, so there's very little reason not to try it out because breakfast is, of course, the most important meal of the day.
