How To Get Followers In The Front
There are quite a few steps you'll need to follow to get Followers in The Front. In addition, you can only convert one NPC at a time, meaning your empire will take some time to get set up initially. We've detailed all the steps below:
Step 1: Craft Simple Jammers
The first step involves crafting Simple Jammers — you'll need this to subdue an NPC and convert it into a Follower in The Front. This device only requires three ingredients:
- 2x Iron Ingots
- 2x Ether Shards
- 2x Tape
Once you have the required materials, go to the Tech Tree and craft a few Simple Jammers. If the option is not available, you'll need to level up.
Step 2: Convert NPCs to Followers
Converting an NPC into a Follower is similar to Pokemon — you are going out into the wild and finding one you like. Then, you kick its ass, catch it, and feed it until it becomes your friend. But how do you do this exactly?
Once you've found an NPC you want to convert, attack it — but do not kill it (obviously) — do this until you see a red and white shackle icon above the NPC's head. Now, this is where the Simple Jammers come in.
Throw the Simple Jammer at the NPC, and the shackle icon will change to the green and white dazed and confused icon. You are one step closer to getting Followers in The Front.

Step 3: Feed the Follower
Now that you have given the NPC numerous knuckle sandwiches, it's time to feed them something they actually like. This is important in finalizing the conversion process of NPC to Follower in The Front.
After you have hit them with the Simple Jammer and they are on their knees, you will need to interact with them. Now, determine their food preference. You can find this information in the NPC's inventory — you'll see a tab under their name. Click on this to see their favorite food!
The next step is to feed them these tasty treats. Once the conversion starts, there will be some additional steps you will need to take to finalize the conversion. We'll explain these in more detail in the following section.
Step 4: Monitor the Chaos and Obedience Bars
As the conversion process starts, you will notice two very important bars:
- Chaos Bar: This meter indicates the time left to convert the NPC. If it reaches zero, the NPC recovers, and you must restart the process. Maintain the Chaos Bar by throwing a Simple Jammer at the NPC.
- Obedience Bar: This meter displays the conversion progress. Feed the NPC their favorite food to increase it. When it reaches 100%, the conversion is complete.
Maintain the Chaos bar above zero with Simple Jammers and increase the Obedience bar to 100% by feeding the NPC. Once at 100%, interact to subdue and convert them into your Follower in The Front.
Step 5: Assign the Follower duties
You are not quite done yet. The final step is to lead your new Follower in The Front back to your base. Then, interact with them and choose the "Recall Follower" option — this will add them to your inventory, effectively like a newly-caught Pokemon.
Now, go to any crafting station you want them assigned to and interact with the station. You'll see a Follower Bar in the top-right corner of the menu. Move the Follower from your inventory into the Follower Bar; this will assign them to this station.
Remember, you will still have to keep feeding the Followers their favorite foods if you want them to be loyal and productive followers. There is no need to be picky with your first Followers, but later in the game, you will be able to come across followers with special abilities!
And there you have it! Now you know how to get Followers in The Front!
