Suffering is a very common affliction in The Thaumaturge. Here's how to cure it when it affects Wiktor.

Your battles in The Thaumaturge can quickly take a turn for the worst, especially when you begin dealing with certain afflictions and states. Some enemies have attacks that can inflict certain status effects on protagonist Wiktor, such as Suffering which deals a small amount of damage each turn.

Suffering is a state that you'll usually be throwing at enemies, but there will come times, such as when fighting Salutors, where it will affect Wiktor instead.

The problem with Suffering is that it can also stack, meaning it can quickly drain your health in just a few turns. Below, we'll go over what you can do to cure the effects of Suffering.

From what we can work out, there are two ways to cure Sufferings. The first is to use an ability that clears negative states, such as Upyr's Liberum Veto ability. The other way is to simply wait it out, though this isn't advised. Suffering should only last for a few rounds, after which it will stop and you can carry on as normal. However, this doesn't always work out.

The Suffering effect can stack up to four times, so it can become a problem pretty quickly. In these cases, the best you can do is to try and take out the enemies as fast as possible. Suffering will hit you for 2 Damage at the end of each round by default, meaning you can receive up to 8 Damage with each round if Suffering has stacked in full.

You can see your current rounds, and attacks or effects that last into upcoming rounds, on the bar at the top of the screen. This will allow you to not only anticipate enemy attacks, but know how long you'll need to hold out before Suffering stops. Typically, Suffering lasts for four rounds.

You can use Salutors such as Upyr, who have healing abilities, to keep your health topped up enough to survive the fight. Make sure you're able to combat any Traits that an enemy might have, particularly if it increases their defence as it will take you longer to defeat them.

That's all for curing Suffering in The Thaumaturge. Be sure to check out our other guides, such as how to complete The Mermaid City's Son questline.
