The recent unveiling of Soulframe's features and gameplay mechanics at TennoCon 2024 provided an in-depth look at what players can expect when the game releases later this year (hopefully). One feature that particularly stands out is called Ancestry. Although it wasn't heavily detailed in the dev stream, what we did see shows a lot of promise.
Let's delve into the details of the Ancestry feature in Soulframe based on what we observed, and explore how its features might be expanded upon when the game is fully released.
Soulframe's Ancestry System Details Suggest A Deep Gameplay Experience To Come
The 2024 TennoCon dev stream showcased many features we're excited to see in Digital Extreme's Soulframe. One feature that I'm particularly thrilled about is the Ancestor system. Simply put, this feature is an NPC network of "Ancestors" that you find in the world and recruit to your personal hub area called "The Nightfold."
Once here, Ancestors can grant you unique roles, such as crafting specific items, weapons, and more (we still don't know the full extent of their role allocations, but it's likely to be even more varied). An example of this is Verminia, the Rat Witch, who we see in the dev stream. The player finds her rat in the overworld, follows it to her dwelling, and then recruits her to their Nightfold, where she offers the ability to enhance cosmetics and craft various potions, elixirs, and tinctures.
This feature is exciting for many reasons, but to me, it's especially endearing for its promise in the game's full release. We could see many Ancestors in the overworld to find, making it worth exploring and venturing into tougher areas and missions to find and recruit them for our purposes.
Additionally, Verminia also introduces us to a new enemy to find, seen towards the end of the stream. This suggests that each new Ancestor we find will unlock a new path or set of missions to take on and gain more strength upon defeating.
These paths could be story events or simply add-ons that the developers use to house more powerful weapons and upgrades, making it quite a promising feature. During the stream, the developers even mentioned ideas for the Ancestor system and how it would weave into the gameplay.
For instance, there was talk of players getting specific buffs or advantages when playing with others who have the same Ancestors, thereby making players "related" to one another. This could offer buffs or special effects, but who knows? It's exciting to theorize about for sure.
All in all, we can only speculate about the full implementation of the Ancestor feature in Soulframe right now. But based on its small glimpses in the dev stream, it's very promising and could be a highlight feature of the game. Once we know more, we'll be sure to keep you all in the loop and update you on the Ancestor system coming in Soulframe.
