Collecting water is an objective players will need to consider once they have their base set up and a shelter with defensive walls built. While collecting rainwater comes quickly in The Forest, in Sons of the Forest, it can be achieved but with some issues.
How do players craft a water collector will see you approach a turtle and decide to farm it for meat and its shell, which is important in making it. Here’s how you can make a water collector and guarantee you have water at your home in Sons of the Forest.
How To Get The Water Collector In Sons Of The Forest?
Water can be easily accessed by finding nearby rivers and lakes throughout the island, which can be used for many purposes. Ensure you’re drinking fresh water, not salt water, as salt water won’t hydrate you, but access to it can be tricky.
If you’ve built your shelter or cabin far away from a water source or the closest you have you passing through enemy territory, this can be the case. There is a way to ensure that you have water at your home base, and that’s by having a water collector.
A water collector collects fresh water, which is safe for drinking and can be used to refill your flask should you have one. To make a water collector, you’ll need to find a giant turtle, not the tiny snapping turtle for which turtles can be found along the island’s coast.
There’s a large concentration of turtles on the island's northwest side, and once you’ve found a giant turtle, you can use either a Crafted Spear, Fireman's Axe, or a Utility Knife to kill it. You can harvest turtle meat that can be used to cook or dry on a drying rack, but you need its shell.
Snap the shell off the turtle, and when you’re back at your home base, place it on the ground to collect rainwater which you can use for drinking, refilling your printed flask, and gardening. This can be equally useful if you have plenty of turtle shells around your base, so you won’t have to go to a river or lake as often unless needed.
However, this item may be bugged as of writing as players have reported problems collecting rainwater using the water collector. Until developer Endnight Games has patched this, it would be advised to collect as many turtle shells as possible to make a water collector.
