Silent Hill: Ascension has been the subject of major controversy since its release, from complaints about microtransactions, to issues with the interactive series' video player and disagreements about the quality of the series' writing. Admist fans' complaints about the interactive Silent Hill series are allegations that the series was actually written by AI, rather than a team of real people.
Genvid CEO Jacob Navok posted a response to the allegations on his Twitter/X account, claiming that "every word in Ascension was written by real people." He notes that the team has worked on other major titles and with major brands, naming Telltale titles, Pixar, GoW Ragnarok, and Resident Evil Village.
"Across our 100,000+ words, zero are authored by LLMs or AI," he added.
In a following post, Navok outlined his thoughts on AI, explaining that he didn't think it was currenly fit for creative work. "I get asked a lot about AI in games, and my response has been that I think AI is a long way away from doing creative work," he mentioned, descrbing several failed tests on the Genvid team to implement AI in various capacities, including animating and chat moderation.
Though it's great to hear that Silent Hill: Ascension is the work of a hard-working team rather than machines, it doesn't make up for the series' other problems, such as heavy microtransactions and a buggy interface. The series continues to face criticism on social media and amongst Silent Hill fans.
