Red Dead Redemption 2 players who want to get their hands on the online MMO Red Dead Online might ask themselves, "Is Red Dead Online free?" After all, once you finish another playthrough of Arthur Morgan's journey, it's hard not to want to pick up an online version of the game and explore even more of the world we get to see through Arthur's eyes.
In this article, we'll discuss whether or not Red Dead Online is free, and how you can get your hands on the game for the lowest cost possible.
Is Red Dead Online Free Right Now?
The only way to play Red Dead Online for free is if you purchase or already own Red Dead Redemption 2 since Red Dead Online is included with the campaign story. If you've purchased Red Dead Redemption 2, you actually already own Red Dead Online.
If you want to buy Red Dead Online as a standalone, though, you can get it for a cheaper cost than buying Red Dead Redemption 2. On Steam, you can pick up a copy of Red Dead Online for $19.99, while Red Dead Redemption 2 (which, as we mentioned, includes the online mode) will cost you $59.99.
Both Red Dead Redemption 2 and Red Dead Online as a standalone sometimes go on sale on Steam and other platforms, so keep an eye out for sales if you're looking to pick up either of the games at their lowest possible price. Some Steam sales have even sliced their cost in half in the past, so you definitely don't have to pay full price at all times for a copy of the game!
Unfortunately, Red Dead Online isn't free, so you'll have to pay to get the game if you don't already own Red Dead Redemption 2. However, those who have purchased the campaign will be happy to know that they, in fact, already have the game - everyone has one; it came free with their Red Dead Redemption 2 (yes, that's a meme reference).
