PS5 and Xbox Series X/S version of Red Dead Redemption 2 might never see the light of day, as some new reports claim that Rockstar Games has halted the development. Released in 2018, Red Dead Redemption 2 still remains among the most complex and detailed worlds created by Rockstar and the community has been begging developers to release a current upgrade, similar to GTA V.
However, it now seems like Rockstar has some different plans with the franchise. According to Tez2, a Rockstar insider who’s accurately leaked information about the company’s games in the past, the developers are not intending to release PS5 and Xbox Series X/S versions of Red Dead Redemption 2.
RDR 2 for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S reportedly canceled
In a recently shared Twitter post by Ben, another notable leaker, Tez2 claimed an enhanced version of Red Dead Redemption 2 is no longer on the table.
When asked about whether "it’s safe to say" that Red Dead Redemption 2 will never get a PS5 and Xbox Series X/S release, Tez2 responded: “Yes. I’ve heard about those a long time ago. As well as their plan to come up with an Enhanced Rockstar Editor. All canceled/halted now.”
This isn't surprising as recently Kotaku confirmed that Rockstar Games dropped the remasters of GTA 4 and Red Dead Redemption in favor of focusing on and developing GTA 6. While GTA as a franchise has really been a money maker for Rockstar, the developers failed to meet expectations with their recent release of Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition, a remaster of the first three GTA titles.

However, Rockstar Games hasn't confirmed whether they truly have halted the development of PS5 and Xbox Series X/S versions of Red Dead Redemption 2 or not.
That said, we can't rule out the probability of the leak being true. In a recent blog, the developers did mention that they will be stopping major Red Dead Online updates to focus on GTA 6.
The blog reads: "Over the past few years, we have been steadily moving more development resources towards the next entry in the Grand Theft Auto series - understanding more than ever the need to exceed players’ expectations and for this next entry to be the best it can possibly be."
So, it seems like no current generation treatment for the wild west, unless Rockstar has something totally different in-store. And that's everything we know about Red Dead Redemption 2 for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S reportedly being canceled.
