With Pokémon Scarlet and Violet set to release later this year, fans are speculating about all of the new additions to the game. From the new Pokémon that will be appearing, if new types will be available in the game, and what the region of this brand new adventure will be called.
Well if you find yourself asking similar questions, especially regarding what the new Gen 9 region will be called, then you're in the right place. We will be delving into the information we have so far to hopefully come up with the most accurate prediction for the name of the new region until the developers and Niantic give us a definitive answer.
What will the Pokémon Gen 9 region be called?
While we don't know for sure just yet what the name of this new region will be, fans speculate the name will be based on a Spanish theme, as it has recently been eluded that the game will be based in the European country of Spain. This comes from information fans have gleaned from the trailer and visual clues in the design and naming of Pokémon that we've seen so far.

Places such as the large hub area seem to be based on Park Güell, a very famous park located in Barcelona. And the large tower seems reminiscent of the Sagrada Familia, which is another iconic location in real-life Barcelona.
The Starter Pokémon also seems to be based on animals native to Spain and its surrounding regions, such as Sprigatito, the Grass-type starter that looks similar to the Iberian Lynx, and the term "gatitio" is Spanish for small cat or kitten.
With all this information pointing to the game being based in Spain, it's only natural to conclude that the name of the region will be influenced by a Spanish naming convention. Similar to how the previous regions were all named after their respective countries, for example; Alola in Gen 7 references the term "Aloha" and is based in Hawaii.
One theory is that this new Pokémon game will focus heavily on the theme of Light and a possible Light Type being added to the game. This theory then branched off into a possible name for the new region being "Alux", which translates loosely into the Latin phrase for "The Light."
This is because modern-day Spanish is a derivative of the loosely spoken Latin that was once spoken in the Iberian Peninsula of Spain and Portugal. And the Latin word could be used for the name of the region as the Greek word "Kalos" was used for Gen 6. Though this is just speculation and the verdict will be given once Niantic announces the name of the Pokémon Generation 9 region later this year.
