Now that the Season of Light has been announced by Niantic, many of the events for September of 2022 are outlined and the Inkay Limited Research day is right around the corner. With a brand new Psychic Cup on the way and a cosmic theme, there's no better time for the return of the Revolving Pokémon.
Inkay made its Pokémon GO debut last year during the 2021 Psychic Spectacular, but like most debuts in the mobile game, there was no shiny form to catch. There has been a year since the last Psychic event and it would be the perfect time to add the opportunity for a shiny Malamar.
Pokémon GO - Can Inkay Be Shiny?
On September 3, Inkay will kick off one of the first Limited Research events in the Pokémon GO Season of Light. One of the best additions of this Psychic-type event is the opportunity to catch a shiny Inkay. For the first time in the game, the shiny form of the Revolving Pokémon will certainly be available.
Shiny Inkay has a very different color scheme when compared to the normal form. Rather than the deep blues and blacks that are the signature of the squid, the shiny form has green and gold hues. Both the first form and Malamar have the same hues on both color schemes.

Because the Limited Research event features the Revolving Pokémon, you'll have an increased chance of finding a shiny. The odds are always around 1/500 for a shiny when you encounter a Pokémon in the wild. Events like GO Fest, Community Events, or even simple raids can quadruple your odds of finding a shiny.
This Pokémon GO event will have similar odds, but that doesn't mean you can't make them even better. The Inkay event will go live at 11 am on September 3 and it runs until 2 pm the same day. Not only will some new research be available, but Inkay will spawn around the wild nearly nonstop. That's the perfect chance to get the debut shiny.
While the hours are active, ensure that you have an Incense Lure activated and a Lure Module if you find yourself near some PokéStops. The more populated an area is, the better your chances are of finding more Inkay spawns. All you need to do is encounter one to see if it's shiny, and if it's not, you can move on to the next catch.
