As Trainers have been granted their wishes during the Winter Holiday and Winter Wonderland events, they can look towards 2023 with a plethora of incoming content planned for Pokémon GO. The upcoming New Year's 2023 event sees the debut of another costumed Pikachu and the return of Reshiram to new Raid encounters.
The Legendary Dragon/Fire-type Pokémon will also be featured in other Raid events throughout January 2023 but will we encounter a Shiny Reshiram? We've detailed whether a Shiny Reshiram is available and how to catch it in Pokémon GO's New Year's 2023 event.
Is There A Shiny Reshiram In Pokémon GO?
Yes, as the Legendary Dragon/Fire-type Pokémon, Reshiram, is returning for this limited-time event, New Year's 2023, and lucky Trainers will be able to encounter it and its Shiny form in-game. During this event, you'll encounter various Pokémon dressed to the nines to bid farewell to 2022.
The New Year's 2023 Event will commence on 31st December 2022 at 8 pm local time, in which Reshiram will be featured in five-star Raids. However, Reshiram will be extending its stay in Raid encounters in January 2023 as it will be featured in additional Raid events for the New Year.
According to the January Content Update for the Mythical Wishes season, the Legendary Dragon/Fire-type Pokémon will continue its run as a five-star Raid Boss following the event's conclusion until 10th January 2023 at 10 am local time. Between these dates, Reshiram will also receive a Raid Hour event on 4th January 2023 for an hour from 6 pm and 7 pm local time.
Like Kyurem's Raid encounter, Reshiram will also know a Charged Attack once you've encountered and caught the Pokémon. The Charged Attack it will know is Fusion Flare which has 90 Power during Trainer Battles and 140 Power for Gyms and Raid Battles.
Adding this Legendary Pokémon to your Pokédex will ask you to bring the best counters against it to this encounter. As Reshiram is a dual-type Pokémon, knowing Dragon and Fire moves, it's most vulnerable to attacks from Dragon, Ground, and Rock-type Pokémon should you wish to inflict the maximum damage possible.
Some of the best Reshiram counters include Dragonite, Garchomp, Dialga, Tyranitar, and Terrakion; however, Dragon-type Pokémon may be slightly ineffective. As with previous Legendary/five-star Raids, Premier Balls will be the best Poké Balls to use to catch Reshiram once you've successfully defeated it.
In addition, you can also increase your chances of catching the Pokémon by using Curveball Throws, which can add to your progress toward December's Field Research. Lastly, you can use Razz Berries or Golden Razz Berries to ensure catching Reshiram is much easier; Nanab Berries will boost your throws, and Silver Pinap Berries to earn more Reshiram Candy following the Raid encounter.
