Pokémon GO developer Niantic shared on the game's official Twitter account on 26th and 27th August 2022 that a minor update is available to install. The update sees new changes to the Item and Storage Upgrades capacity features, which should increase space to store more items and Pokémon.
This had been long requested for months, and it seems like the developer has made good on implementing yet another increase to the various storage features. While this has been well-received, it does come with one major catch: Trainers must purchase them to increase the storage limit from the in-game Shop.
How To Increase Item And Storage Capacity In Pokémon GO?
As the Item and Storage Upgrades can be acquired from the Shop, they can be accessed by going to the Map View and tapping the Main Menu icon. Then tap the Shop icon to enter where they can browse its inventory for the Upgrades.

The Item or Bag Upgrade, which now has a maximum capacity of 5,150, can be permanently increased by 50 units. This will cost 200 PokéCoins, allowing them to hold 50 more items in their bag until they need more space.
Likewise, the Storage Upgrade also increased by 50 units, with the new maximum limit capped at 6,150. This permanently lets them hold more Pokémon, breaking the bank by 200 PokéCoins for every 50 units.
To reiterate, to obtain PokéCoins can be earned in two different methods: the first is by successfully defending their Gym, which they can also earn Gym points. Their Pokémon can receive a PokéCoin every 10 minutes spent in a Gym; a maximum of 50 PokéCoins can be earned from a Gym within 24 hours.

The second method is through microtransactions, where PokéCoins and other valuable in-game items can be purchased. This depends on their country's currency, which they can use real-world money to buy PokéCoin packages from 100 to 14,500 PokéCoins.
Lastly, Pokémon dataminer Leek Duck, who first reported on the new storage updates, tweeted that there will be a new "Training Box," including Item and Storage Upgrade items, which can be purchased for 550 PokéCoins. They stated that it should be available from midnight local time on 27th August 2022, and we'll endeavor to provide more updates once more reliable information is available.
