Blizzard Entertainment is ironing out issues with the ongoing Overwatch 2 PvP closed beta and has decided to disable Wrecking Ball after players discovered a game-breaking bug with the character.
The decision was made on 3rd May and announced via social media. "Wrecking Ball’s powers are a bit too strong on the Beta server. We’re disabling him immediately while we work to address a bug that allowed him to cause other players to crash," the PlayOverwatch Twitter account shared.
As it turns out, a small oversight with the game's code makes it so Wrecking Ball can literally shut the lobby down for every single player in it, except the person playing the character.
Why was Wrecking Ball disabled from the Overwatch 2 beta?
As we've mentioned, Wrecking Ball can cause a whole lobby to disconnect from a match. What makes the issue even more egregious is that the player doesn't even have to do a particularly hard input to do so.
In fact, it can be done accidentally without meaning to cause harm. You just simply need to jump and activate Wrecking Ball's grappling hook on any surface to cause massive disconnects to occur.
Some Overwatch pro and content creators have run into this issue with hilarious results. Take a look at former Overwatch League main tank Matther "Super" DeLisi accidentally pulling this glitch live on stream down below.
After trying to jump and grapple before the match kicked off, Super made the whole lobby disconnect. "I just sniped the whole server! No more, no more," he said as he switched off Wrecking Ball into Doomfist. "How could I have known?"
When will Wrecking Ball be back in the Overwatch 2 beta?
Blizzard has yet to reveal when will Wrecking Ball be back into the Overwatch 2 closed beta, if at all. The first phase will close on 17th May, so they'll need to work swiftly for the character to come back in the coming days.

So far, other than minor glitches and issues, this Wrecking Ball bug is by far the most annoying players have had to deal with this past week. Players are able to submit problems they find via Overwatch's social channels and Blizzard forums.
