Following much speculation online as to when the next Nintendo Direct presentation would be scheduled, the Japanese publisher announced on social media that a Direct is on its way. The news has undoubtedly excited Nintendo fans on what to expect, including new gaming releases and, importantly, news on the next Switch console.
Unfortunately, the next Nintendo Direct presentation will not showcase any gaming releases or make Switch 2 announcements as it will turn its attention to something completely different: the Nintendo Museum. This announcement may have left some Nintendo fans somewhat confused or a little disappointed as they hoped for gaming announcements or potential teases or news for the Nintendo Switch 2 console, as some had speculated.
Nintendo took to their social media accounts on 18th August 2024, announcing that the next Direct presentation has been penciled in for 19th August 2024 at 3 pm PT / 6 pm ET / 10 pm UTC, which certainly created much excitement online. The presentation will be broadcast live across their YouTube channel, as this latest Direct will focus on the Nintendo Museum, which is scheduled to open its doors later this year.
The Nintendo Direct presentation is around ten minutes long, making this forthcoming digital event relatively brief compared to previous Directs, despite it not having any gaming-related announcements and news. In a follow-up post, the Japanese publisher made it known that "there will be no game announcements or mention of the Nintendo Switch successor during this presentation."
Based on the follow-up post, it will be a while until Nintendo lifts the veil and announces the Nintendo Switch 2 console, but for now, fans will receive their first official look into the Nintendo Museum, which was first announced in 2021. According to an official press release, this Museum was built on the same grounds where the Japanese publisher manufactured trading cards and had repair facilities for toys and consoles.
The Museum will be a representation of the company and the brand as a means "to share Nintendo's product development history and philosophy with the public." With the construction of the Nintendo Museum completed in May 2024, viewers around the world will finally get a tour visit of the Museum which will welcome its first visitors in the Fall of 2024.
