New World has taken the gaming world by storm, dominating Twitch and with millions of players jumping into the world of Aeternum; albeit perhaps no surprise considering both are owned by Amazon. Despite this, the New World MMO launch hasn't been without its issues as many players are experiencing extremely long queue times (if they can get in the server at all).
The source of the problems has been blamed on two key factors: the developer's staggered launch times and character naming system, with many players jumping into servers on other regions in order to lay claim to their desired in-game name. That, coupled with the huge number of players who are trying to play on launch day, has resulted in a storm of disgruntled would-be adventurers.
New World to offer free server migration after troublesome launch
While the server issues have an air of predictability to them, few have had any sympathy. New World runs on Amazon Web Services (AWS), the largest cloud computing network in the world, which also hosts the likes of Netflix, Twitch, Facebook, and Adobe. Despite this, the game was subsequently (and predictably) reviewed bombed on Steam.
Thankfully those that have experienced these issues have something to be cheerful about. The developers recently announced that all players will be offered a one-time character migration to another server, as long as it's within the two weeks of launch.
In a statement posted to New World's social accounts, the developers revealed they are also working to add additional servers and also expand the capacity of those currently running.
"We understand that some players are experiencing lengthy queue times and we are working hard on a few things to help address these issues. We are continuing to stand up additional servers and will expand the capacity of our existing servers once we have properly tested these changes," the statement noted.
Aware that many players will have chosen a less than optimum server to play the game on launch day, the developers also detailed the aforementioned one-off server migration, which read:
"Our sole focus right now is to get everyone logging in and playing quickly. To ensure everyone can find an open world now, while also finding a home in Aeternum with their community long-term, we’ll offer an opportunity in the next two weeks for all players to relocate their characters to a new server of their choice at no cost. We appreciate your patience as the New World community grows and encourage you to solidify your long-term server plans for you and your Company."
How players will be able to migrate their character is not yet known but at least players know that when the dust settles they will be able to quest away with their mates in Aeternum.
