There's always excitement heading into a new installment about which legends might be arriving, and one report signals some big names might be on the horizon for MLB The Show 25. While official reveals aren't expected to begin until closer to the end of the month, the natural progression of time means that more stars from around the turn of the century are on the way. If the latest report rings true, the MLB The Show 25 legends roster may be one for the ages.
MLB The Show 25 legends could include Clemens and Bonds
Every year new legends find their way into MLB The Show, and it's become one of the most exciting pieces of news to come out of each annual launch. While developers Sony San Diego have a working agreement with the MLB Players Association that streamlines the inclusion of active players, things get a bit trickier when it comes to legends.
For the most part, these deals have to be worked out individually. Players have to agree to join the game as a legend, and part of that negotiation is always about compensation. That can lead to plenty of potential hiccups where what players want and what Sony San Diego is willing to provide don't align, and it means only a select group will find their way into the game each year.
According to a report by Forbes, there are several major names from the late 1990s into the early 2000s that have a "great chance" of making it onto the MLB The Show 25 legends roster. Nomar Garciaparra and Roger Clemens appear to be the most likely new faces, but Alex Rodriguez and Manny Ramirez could also be on deck.
Perhaps the biggest possibility is Barry Bonds, but the report stated "no one [they] spoke to could confirm Bonds' inclusion in MLB The Show 25." Even separate from the legend timing, Barry Bonds was long absent from many baseball video games as he withdrew from the MLBPA licensing agreement during his active career. Instead, deals had to be made independently with Bonds.
The biggest sign that Barry Bonds might be coming to MLB The Show 25 is actually the fact that he's set to have certified autographed cards released by Topps in 2025. Any new legend would definitely be included in Diamond Dynasty, and for several years there have been Topps branded cards within MLB The Show. With Bonds having not worked with Topps since 2017, there's perhaps a better chance than ever before that he might finally join the legends roster in MLB The Show 25.
