As fans eagerly look towards baseball season and the release of MLB The Show 25, the slow trickle of news is only just starting to begin. Aside from one teaser of a reveal a few months ago that confirmed a change for Diamond Dynasty, no new features have been made official. Fortunately, new reporting about key MLB The Show 25 game modes could signal exactly the upgrades fans have been clamoring for.

So far, the only official word from developer San Diego Studio about MLB The Show 25 notified fans that the Sets & Seasons mechanic is not due to return in Diamond Dynasty. The announcement back in November also teased the following changes:

  • Road To The Show: Deepen the player’s journey, before being drafted, and return control to how a player develops and grows in new and interesting ways.
  • Diamond Dynasty: Alongside the retirement of Sets and Seasons, our fans can look forward to all-new elements of the Diamond Dynasty experience blended with what our fans love most about Diamond Dynasty.
  • Franchise: Improved trade evaluation metrics are coming along with a new fun and engaging offseason experience.
  • Gameplay: With the expansion of quick time events, defensive AI, and pathing updates, enjoy more engaging moment-to-moment gameplay.

According to a new report from Forbes, Road to the Show is due to see "the pre-majors experience" get a major upgrade with long-term impacts on the full career mode experience. The offseason upgrade for Franchise Mode will reportedly impact "contracts, trades, free agency, and more." While not mentioned, March to October's relative parity with Franchise in the last few years makes it likely some or all of those offseason upgrades will also be included in the MtO experience.

The report also stated that Negro Leagues Storylines are returning, and that tracks as early streams with Bob Kendrick and Ramone Russell saw them discuss this as something that began as a five-year partnership. As of now, the plan will likely be at least two or three more years of Negro Leagues Storylines depending on exactly when that partnership is set to expire and whether it's renewed. We should begin learning about some of those new Negro Leagues Legends after the MLB The Show 25 release date has been announced.

As for Diamond Dynasty, this new report stated that developers are "committed to fixing what ailed the mode in 24 and layering it with mounds of content for 25." That begins with Sets & Seasons, but there will hopefully be other upgrades that include additional ways for no-money-spent players to unlock cards. MLB The Show 25 looks primed to address many of the major fan complaints of recent years, but only time will tell if San Diego Studio can deliver.
