Developer Bad Ridge Games will host the first Closed Beta weekend, in which interested players can sign up for access keys and jump into the "medieval fantasy" game. With the game delayed until November 2024 for PC, the developer shared an updated roadmap, which shifted some of their post-launch content plans and confirmed what content and features are now included at launch.
One feature coming to the game post-launch looks to their character's future generation with the Legacy system, currently scheduled to drop in a forthcoming update in 2025. So, we've discussed in this guide what we know thus far about the upcoming Legacy system by highlighting all the key details the developer has outlined as of writing for Mirthwood.
What Is The Legacy System Explained For Mirthwood?
Bad Ridge Games briefly explained in a developer post via Mirthwood's Steam News hub that a post-launch update will introduce new features and balance changes to expand the family home. First highlighted in the game's Development Roadmap shared in late August, "The Baby Boom" update was revealed to add two in-game features: the Marriage system, with an accompanying ceremony for players to marry a partner of their choosing, and the Legacy system.
Regarding the latter, the developer shared a few details on the Legacy system in multiple posts and the roadmap, but it does involve opening their home to their descendants. The Legacy system is a forthcoming feature coming soon to Mirthwood that lets players establish a family with their partner or spouse (achieved through marriage) by having offspring or children to continue the family name.
This system introduces "heartwarming family dynamics, enabling players to nurture and grow their in-game families" with their spouses. With unique family-orientated features to be added to Mirthwood, players can watch their families grow, and once their offspring or children come of age, they will make an important decision, allowing them to continue their in-game adventures.
However, having a family or establishing one with their partner comes with a unique set of life-changing situations as they can choose to continue life with their partner until they're "old and grey" or embark on their new adventures as one of their offspring when their created character passes on. This system looks to add supporting features and tools, most notably the ability to pass down personality traits and attributes through genetics or DNA, but it's unclear as of writing if we can choose these traits and attributes for our offspring to "inherit" or if they'll be randomly selected.
The Legacy system looks to be an interesting key feature that could make Mirthwood apart from other competing and popular life simulation games, like The Sims and Animal Crossing. Allowing players to decide which traits their children to "inherit possibly" may provide unique in-game experiences that no two players will encounter and are exceptionally rare to discover.
While the developer still have plenty of time to continue development on this feature and plenty more, we anticipate hearing more on the Legacy system from Bad Ridge Games in the coming weeks. As such, we'll update this guide once we have more information on the Legacy system, which is planned to arrive in Mirthwood in 2025.
