Horizon Forbidden West is a massive open-world game with many story missions to complete, side missions to pursue, collectables to find, and machines to fight.
There are also plenty of random encounters, especially if you're playing in the explorer mode. One such unexpected encounter occurs relatively early in the game, in The Daunt region.
You will unlock the ability to craft Smoke Bombs if you see it through. As such, here's our step by step guide on how to unlock Smoke Bombs in Horizon Forbidden West.
Smoke Bombs in Horizon Forbidden West
Head south from the Chainscrape settlement until you reach The Daunt Relic Ruin. From here, head North West, and you will immediately stumble upon two Oseram Warriors.
One of the warriors is stranded under a dead Scrounger. Go near him and press R2 on your controller to free him, which would then trigger a cutscene.
The Oseram Warriors will introduce them as Telga and Fendur (the one you rescued). Fender will tell you about the increasing number of Bristtleback carcasses in the region and how they have been cleaning them to avoid unwanted attention from Scroungers.
Once he's finished talking, he will thank you and give you two Smoke Bombs as a reward. Completing this random encounter will also unlock the Smoke Bomb recipe, which you can now find in the tools' section of your inventory.
To craft a Smoke Bomb in Horizon Forbidden West, you will need the following items:
- 15x Metal Shards
- 5x Machine Muscle
- 4x Blastpaste
You can craft Smoke Bombs either at a workbench in any of the settlements or by selecting Smoke Bombs via left or right D-pad and then holding the down D-pad and pressing X.
