Since its arrival this September, Genshin’s 2.1 update “Floating World Under the Moonlight” brought tons of new features to the game with the addition of the Watatsumi and Seirai islands, as well as a fishing system, powerful bosses, and last but not least, four more characters.
Now, with Phase II about to begin, both the Raiden Shogun and her loyal servant Kujou Sara will say goodbye to the limited banners, making way for the debut of a new adventurer.
Rising from Watatsumi Island, she is known for her delicate and graceful way of being, but on the inside, she hides a very tactical and skilful person, as she is the leader of a resistance who is fighting against the Shogunate’s purposes. Introducing the “Pearl of Wisdom” Sangonomiya Kokomi.
Sangonomiya Kokomi - Backstory and origins
To talk about the origins of Sangonomiya Kokomi, we have to go way back to the times where the inhabitants from Watatsumi Island used to live in an underwater civilization, known as Enkanomiya. Legend says “it was only by the grace of the god Orobaxi that brought them up to the surface, the people of this place exists today.”
Most of the inhabitants from Watatsumi can see that every day, as Orobaxi’s skeleton gave rise to the Tatarigami area, after it was slain by the Electro Archon during the Archon War. Since that day, the Sangonomiya Clan has dedicated itself through generations to protect the island no matter the cost.
As the current heir of this bloodline, Sangonomiya Kokomi inherits the will of a god in a mortal’s body, therefore her role as the Divine Priestess. Nonetheless, even if her look makes her seems like a peaceful person instead of a war commander, don’t get fooled.
Being a crucial part of the total protection of the Watatsumi Island, the “Pearl of Wisdom” has shown everyone her skills as a born leader, by developing the region as a whole thanks to her directives, taking into account every possible scenario supported by her vast knowledge in military strategies, and the art of war.
Sangonomiya Kokomi - Talents
Her normal attack, the Shape of Water, allows her to perform up to three consecutive strikes, taking the form of swimming fish and dealing Hydro DMG. With her charged attack, she can consume some Stamina to deal Hydro DMG in a bigger area, after a short casting time.
With her elemental skill, Kurage’s Oath, Kokomi will summon a “Bake-Kurage” created from water that deals Hydro DMG to surrounding opponents, but also heals nearby characters based on her Max HP at fixed intervals. Doing this skill will also apply her a Wet status.
With her Elemental Burst, Nereid’s Ascension, Kokomi will summon the might of Watatsumi, dealing Hydro DMG to all nearby enemies before robing her in a Ceremonial Garment from the flowing waters of Sangonomiya.
This Ceremonial Garment will increase her resistance to interruption and her Normal, Charged and Hydro DMG, based on her Max HP. Every time her attacks hit on opponents, she will restore HP for all her party members, and finally, this will also give her the ability to walk on the water’s surface.
Sangonomiya Kokomi - Best weapons
Everlasting Moonglow
Starting with the best 5-star weapon, a new Catalyst will be available to coincide with her debut known as the Everlasting Moonglow. This weapon is part of the Inazuma Series, shining with a pure radiance like that of the moon, and just as ever-distant, being the signature option for the Divine Priestess.
It comes with a special passive called Byakuya Kougetsu, which increases healings by 10/12.5/15/17.5/20%, and Normal Attack DMG by 1/1.5/2/2.5/3% based on the character’s Max HP. Also, for 12 seconds after using an Elemental Burst, Normal Attacks that hit opponents will restore 0.6 Energy once every 0.1 seconds.
Prototype Amber
Moving on to the best 4-star weapon, we will find the Prototype Amber, a Liyue catalyst available for free through the game’s crafting system by using a Northlander Catalyst Billet, 50 Crystal Chunks, 50 White Iron Chunks, and 500 Mora.
Powered by its Gilding passive, this catalyst helps you regenerate 4/4.5/5/5.5/6 Energy every two seconds for six seconds, after using an Elemental Burst. All party members will also regenerate 4/4.5/5/5.5/6% HP every two seconds for this duration.
Thrilling Tales of Dragon Slayers
At last, we must suggest this 3-star catalyst, as it brings a lot of potentials if you are looking to build her more as a Support instead of a Sub-DPS. Since this weapon it’s very easy to obtain through the game’s wish system, getting it at max refinement will be no trouble for you.
It comes with a unique skill called Heritage, which allows when switching characters, the new character taking the field will have its ATK increased by 24/30/36/42/48% for ten seconds. This effect can only occur once every 20 seconds.
Sangonomiya Kokomi - Best artifacts and stats
Heart of Depth
As the main choice for her artifacts if you want her as a Sub-DPS, we will recommend the Heart of Depth set, as it will increase her damage output by giving a 45% Hydro DMG Bonus when having two pieces of it.
If you manage to get four artifacts of this set, once you use an Elemental Skill, it will increase Normal and Charged Attacks DMG by 30% for 15 seconds. Pieces of this set can be obtained from the Peak of Vindagnyr Domain on Dragonspine's peak.
You can also combine it with the Maiden Beloved set, for a 15% Bonus on Character Healing Effectiveness.
Tenacity of the Millelith
The best option for her as a Support is the Tenacity of the Millelith set, as it will buff the power of her Elemental abilities by increasing her HP by 20% when having two pieces from this set.
With four pieces, whenever an Elemental Skill hits an opponent, the ATK of all nearby party members will be increased by 20% and their Shield Strength will be increased by 30% for three seconds. This effect can be triggered once every 0.5 seconds, even when the character who is using this artifact set is not on the field.
Pieces of this set can be obtained from the Ridge Watch Domain, located in the mountainous area that connects Mondstadt and Liyue.

Recommended team composition and release date
Sangonomiya Kokomi was developed to be a very flexible option, either if you need a good Sub-DPS unit to create great Elemental Reactions thanks to her Hydro affinity, or a fantastic Support with lots of healing power that can help your team survive every battle.
So, to compliment her playstyle, you can choose between the following characters based on what suits you best for the battle:
-
First, you must pick a powerful Cryo character to spam Freeze reactions with Kokomi’s Hydro attacks. The best options we suggest are Kamisato Ayaka or Ganyu, while you can also give a shot to Kaeya or Rosaria.
-
Next up you can go for an Anemo, as these can bring a lot of damage into the board, while making great swirls that attract all enemies around, for an unstoppable hurricane of Elemental DMG. Either Venti and Kaedehara Kazuha are great, although you can with the Anemo Traveler or Sucrose if you don’t have them on hand.
-
For the third slot, you can go for a Pyro character, as these will trigger Vaporize reactions that increase the damage output. Our best pick will go to Hu Tao, but you can also go for Xiangling or Bennett.
And that’s all we gotta share with you about Sangonomiya Kokomi. Remember, she will only be available from 22nd September to 13th October in the banner “Drifting Luminescence”, so try to save as many Primogems as you can.
