Ever since Lionel Messi left Barcelona, the La Liga TOTS has felt like an afterthought. Gone were the days of Barcelona and Real Madrid having the most sought-after items in the game, with people looking towards the English and French leagues to build their teams.
But FIFA 23 might represent a change, with a thrilling La Liga resulting in plenty of high-performing players. From standout veterans to teenage superstars, this year promises to offer players a bit of everything. Read on for all the information you'll need to get prepared.

When Are La Liga TOTS Released?
The La Liga TOTS will be released on the 19th of May at 18:00 BST. This will be the third major league to be released, with three more to follow.
How Many Players Are Included?
As always it's important to mention that we don't know for certain, but based on the previous teams it's safe to say we can expect 18 players in total. This will include a mixture of regular TOTS cards and TOTS Moments cards. It's also worth pointing out that our predictions have taken into account the Community TOTS, so keep that in mind when wondering why players like Rodrygo and Ronald Araujo aren't included.
Who's Included?
Here are our predictions for the full La Liga FIFA 23 Team of the Season.
Defence
GK Ter Stegen
Our predictions are going to be pretty Barcelona-heavy for defenders, but there’s a big reason why. As of writing, they’ve conceded 13 goals in the league all season. That’s less than double what Real Madrid have conceded. The stats speak for themselves, and show why Ter Stegen is set to earn his first TOTS card since FIFA 20.
RB Jules Kounde
Signed as a centre-back from Sevilla, the French international has adapted to right back during the season, carving out the position as his own. Another key factor for Barcelona’s absurd defensive record.
CB Eder Militao
Another strong season at centre-back and another strong favourite for FIFA players, expect this to be another expensive card following his Team of the Year card released back in January.
LB Alejandro Balde
This is a card that might end up on the bench, but we think deserves a spot in the starting lineup. After all, it’s not often a 19-year-old emerges as a key part of a league-winning defence that has barely conceded all season. Considering his base card is a 68-rated Silver, Balde’s in for a huge upgrade.
Midfield
CM Valverde
The second Real Madrid player on the list, Valverde’s versatility puts what position he’ll play in to question. Playing as both a right winger and centre mid, we have a feeling they’ll opt for CM due to just how strong the attackers are this year.
CM Mikel Merino
Some would say it’s a surprise that Merino’s not received a special card yet this year considering his nine assists being a key part of Real Sociedad’s battle for Champions League football.
CM Pedri
The Spanish wonder kid is one of football’s brightest stars at the moment, stepping in to the Barcelona midfield with no fear and treating the La Liga like a playground. With 4 special cards already in FIFA, Pedri is a favourite of EA and can expect to see a 5th.
LW Vinicius Junior
10 goals, 9 assists, but more importantly giving right backs all over Europe nightmares, Vinicius Jr has grown into his role as a key player for Real Madrid this season. With Benzema missing games through injury, Vinicius would often step up to contribute as the main man in his absence.
Attack
ST Robert Lewandowksi
The legendary Polish striker’s first season in Barcelona couldn’t have gone much better, with his 21 goals likely to earn him top goalscorer while also being a part of a title-winning season.
ST Antoine Griezmann
Griezmann’s season has been one of mixed achievements. The positives are his 12 goals and 13 assists so far, making him the top creator in the league. The downs are a disappointing league campaign where they failed to properly challenge for the league, and a runners up medal at the World Cup. Despite this, he’s still more than deserving of a TOTS card that is sure to be popular amongst players.
ST Karim Benzema
And finally, rounding out the attackers is another forward still excelling over the age of 30. Injuries have meant the Madrid frontman hasn’t been able to claim top goalscorer yet, but his 17 goals in 21 games tells you all you need to know about how prolific he’s been in front of goal.
Bench
RB Juan Foyth
With only 20 starts in La Liga this is probably one of the riskier selections in the team, but for good reason. Once outcast by Jose Mourinho at Tottenham, Foyth has stood out at right back for Villarreal.
CB Jose Gimenez
We’ve spoke a fair bit about how good Barcelona’s defence have been, but it’s also worth pointing out that Atletico Madrid boast the second best defence in the league. Just for that, the Uruguayan could feature as a more affordable option in the TOTS.
CM Frenkie De Jong
Another Barcelona midfielder, another TOTS card. Frenkie’s season started with heavy links to Manchester United but his decision to stay in Spain has been rewarded with a league title.
CAM Lee Kang-In
The attacking mid from RCD Mallorca is on many Premier League team’s radars following his form in La Liga, with reports of a 20million release clause in his contract. With such a heavy Madrid and Barcelona influence on the starting line up, EA will want to balance it out by having some different teams represented on the bench.
ST Joselu
The 33 year old striker has had a pretty strange career. Who else can say they started off in Real Madrid’s academy, then spending 3 years in Germany before a move to Stoke City and then Newcastle, and finally having their best ever season back in Spain for Espanyol after being picked up for free. Regardless of how he got there, 15 goals and counting means he gets a TOTS card.
ST Enes Ünal
The one-time Manchester City star prospect has had a good season for Getafe, scoring 14 goals along the way. The fact that this hasn’t resulted in any form of special card feels wrong, especially given that the goals have come from a relegation-battling Getafe side.
RW Raphinha
Some might say 7 Barcelona TOTS cards is overkill but let’s be honest, they’ve dominated the entire league for a reason. While he’s struggled for consistent starts, the ex-Leeds winger has almost always impressed when called upon.
