Now that Fall Guys has finally released, over 1.5 million players have entered the fight for first place in the wacky battle royale-style game. Playing a series of minigames with the aim to be the last jellybean standing at the end of it all, there’s a lot to learn if you want to be the best. Here’s how to win at Tail Tag.
How to win Tail Tag
Tail Tag might not be as frustrating as its big brother Team Tail Tag but, since you’re less able to rely on your teammates for support, whether or not you qualify is all down to your own skill. This mode can be understandably frustrating, due to tail grabbing not being the most reliable feature in the game, so you’ll need a keen understanding of the map to make sure you come out on top.
The aim of Tail Tag is to simply be one of the players wearing a tail when the timer runs out. To steal a tail, you’ll need to grab one from another Fall Guy, something that can prove tricky since all players move at the same speed.
It’s worth noting that a Fall Guy who has just grabbed a tail gains invincibility from tail-stealing for about a second. You can, however, hold onto the player during this time. Once you have a tail of your own, bear in mind that you don’t have to run away from every player. In fact, grouping up with others who already have tails could make you less of a target.

Diving will slow you down, but only if you miss. Utilising a diving grab could be the difference between grabbing a tail, or endlessly chasing a player around the stage. Make sure to regularly switch up your movement when being pursued, or a dive might see you eliminated.
The giant hammer in the centre of the stage is a high-risk, high-reward area for players with tails. There are often a lot of other Fall Guys concentrated in this area, but it’s possible to take shelter underneath the spinning mallet. As a last-ditch escape, you can also deliberately get hit by the hammer to go flying off to the side of the stage. If you land near a tailless player, this could be a disaster, but it’ll certainly get you away from pursuers in a heartbeat.
Quick Tips
- Group up with other tail-owning players to avoid targeting
- Use the hammer in the centre of the stage to knock yourself away from those chasing you
- Use dive carefully to grab a tail that’s just slightly out of reach
