Dying Light 2: Stay Human is a massive open-world game that offers plenty of unique combat tools to keep things fresh throughout over 500 hours of total gameplay

Like its predecessor, Techland's latest entry emphasises parkour and traversal, which feels much more refined and responsive than the original. Throughout the game's 20-25 hours long main story, you will unlock several traversal tools that add to the already engaging parkour loop.

These tools are called Nightrunner tools, and the grappling hook is one of them. Here's how you can unlock the grappling hook in Dying Light 2.

How to get a grappling hook in Dying Light 2?

Acquiring the grappling hook in Dying Light 2 could take roughly 15-30 hours, depending on the number of side quests you decide to complete. However, the time might also depend on the number of GRE Quarantine Zones, GRE Anomalies, Dark Zones, and other optional activities you choose to complete.

You unlock the grappling hook halfway through the story quest "Broadcast," which is the 16th story quest in the game. However, getting used to the grappling hook may take a while since it isn't as simple as those in Halo Infinite.

Instead, it works somewhat similarly to Spider-Man's web-shooters. Like other Nightrunner tools such as the paraglider, you can start using the grappling hook in the open world after finishing the Broadcast quest.

Similarly to the other Nightrunner tools in Dying Light 2, you can upgrade the grappling hook two times. To upgrade it, you must find a Craftmaster in any Peacekeepers or Survivors' settlements across Villedor.

The first upgrade allows you to attach the grappling hook to any surface and gain additional velocity in that direction. This upgrade will cost you 2 Military Tech and 2000 Old World Money.

The second upgrade adds the ability to pull enemies closer. Be mindful that while you can pull enemies via the grappling hook, you can't inflict any damage on them with it. This upgrade will cost you 3 Military Tech and 3000 Old World Money.

That concludes our guide on the grappling hook. Make sure to check our dedicated Dying Light 2 section for more news, features, and guides.
