Best Spiritborn Leveling Strategy in Diablo 4 Vessel of Hatred

We outline the best leveling strategy for a new Spiritborn at the start of Diablo 4's Vessel of Hatred campaign.

Many Diablo 4 players will want to start their Vessel of Hatred journey by testing out the new Spiritborn class, and if you are like me, you'll get hooked and want to take it all the way to the Vessel of Hatred endgame.

This guide is for people who want to experience the whole Vessel of Hatred story with the Spiritborn class for the first time, leveling from 1 to 60 and getting to the start of the endgame, which is considered Torment 1 difficulty.

Take a seat, as I will guide you through the entire process from start to finish, so you can get your Spiritborn to the endgame, Akarat willing...

Spiritborn Build Recommendations for Leveling

We recommend messing around with your build as much as possible to test which skills you love the most. Alternatively, you can go for a VERY powerful and fast Spiritborn build such as the Quill Volley Eagle, or the Stinger Centipede builds from Maxroll.gg.

I personally went with my own iteration of the Quill Volley, going full Eagle skills but with Gorilla as my main Spirit. Quill Volley iterations can be a bit faster than the Centipede builds, as you have more movement speed buffs.

Pro tip:If you do go for a Quill Volley build, complete the Forge of Malice dungeon in Nahantu as soon as you can, as this unlocks a critical Legendary Aspect called Rebounding.

The First 15 Levels in Vessel of Hatred

Create your Spiritborn character, choosing to start with the Vessel of Hatred campaign, and picking the Seasonal option.

Once you spawn in Kyovashad, head straight to the Wardrobe/Stash building and select a pet. This is super important since you want a pet with you at all times to help pick up items, and they look cute!

From here, use a Waypoint to head straight to Zarbinzet and speak to Damond, following the Creeping Hatred seasonal questline. The start of the Season 6 quest will task you with killing a Realmwalker and clearing the Seething Realm. Check out our guide below to quickly complete this endeavor.

Once you've completed the first part of the seasonal questline, you'll be able to earn a reputation with Zakarum Remnants and reap the rewards in each tier.

At this point, you should be level 10 to 12. Dive into a Helltide or do another Realmwalker and Seething Realm combo to get to level 15.

Complete Spiritborn Class Quest

Once you are level 15, a new priority quest will pop up called "The Sacred Hunt" in Kehjistan. Finish up whatever you are doing, for example, killing a Realmwalker or possibly getting enough Cinders in a Helltide to open a Tortured Mysteries chest. Now head straight to The Sacred Hunt quest and get started.

This will unlock the Spirit Hall and give you a massive power boost in the process. The Sacred Hunt takes roughly 20 minutes to complete and requires you to use some emotes in the "Sacred Hunting Ground" area, so pay attention to the text and your companion.

Once your class quest is completed, it's time to head to Nahantu!

The Vessel of Hatred Campaign

Set the difficulty from Hard to Normal, and start the Vessel of Hatred campaign. I won't spoil the story for you at all here, apart from saying that you should take a quick break in the campaign as soon as you get the additional Mercenary quests to unlock them all, then head straight back to the story.

Pro tip: Return to Damond in Zarbinet quickly every time you get a notification that you've leveled up a tier in the Zakarum Remnants reputation. This allows for fantastic rewards to boost your killing speed, and you'll be able to slowly progress to the next tier.

Follow the story, and it will give you enough XP to get to roughly level 56 or 58 depending if you do a few sidequests or not. Once the story is completed, you'll only be a few levels away from 60. We choose Normal difficulty instead of Hard here for the fastest run of enemies and bosses due to the simple fact that the XP from completing main story quests is enough to get us close to 60, making it faster than using Expert difficulty for your first campaign clear.

DO NOT use any Elixirs or Opals to increase your XP gain, as this XP increase is only for monsters slain, and we are leveling on the main quest XP almost exclusively.

I recommend enjoying the story the first time around. Remember that you can skip it with your next character, so just listen, watch, and get stunned by the dark twists and turns. Yes, you can skip the cutscenes, but it really doesn't save THAT much time and you'll miss out on some great storytelling.

The Final Steps to a Level 60 Spiritborn

Once you are done with the campaign, you have a few options to finish up the final levels on your way to 60. I would personally recommend the actions in this order to get the most out of your time:

  • Finish all three Nahantu strongholds.
  • Slay Realmwalkers and jump into Seething Realms.
  • Run a few Helltides.
  • Complete Dungeons or side quests in Nahantu.

Doing Seething Realms will help you get Seething Opals which will boost your XP and resource gain during the endgame push to Paragon 300.

No matter what you do, it shouldn't take more than two or three hours (if you are taking it super chill) to get to level 60.

Getting To Torment in Diablo 4

Your final step is to unlock Torment 1 difficulty and step into the endgame for the first time. I recommend doing roughly three Helltides after you reach level 60 and making sure your build is solid. That's really all you need, and then you should head to The Pit and open a Level 20 Pit run. Jump inside, crush the enemies within the 15-minute time limit, and there you go. You've unlocked Torment 1 difficulty.

Change your difficulty right away and start farming the endgame content. Before you just go crazy in The Pit, The Citadel, or Undercity, I suggest getting your Nahantu Renown to level 4 since you'll want to get the regional Skill Points, Paragon Levels, and Potion Capacity. While exploring Nahantu after the campaign is complete, remember to activate the Tenets of Akarat, which gives you an additional 10 Renown each.

Congratulations, you are now officially in the Diablo 4 Vessel of Hatred endgame. Take on the challenges of the Undercity, check out The Citadel, slay uber bosses, complete more Helltides, and min/max your build with Glyphs via The Pit, and Masterworking/Tempering your biggest drops.

While you ponder your path to level 60 and Torment difficulty, check out the Diablo 4 Vessel of Hatred progression video below, where the developers explain all the biggest changes in detail.

So there you have it, a leveling guide with all the critical steps to get your Spiritborn from level 1 to 60 and then Torment 1 difficulty, where the endgame begins. Enjoy the experience, Nephalem!
