NetEase Games has finally lifted the lid on the long-rumoured Destiny mobile title, Destiny: Rising. The title, developed in collaboration with Bungie, offers "hero characters, a shared world, and an abundance of game modes", a press release explains.

"For over a decade, we have built this universe to contain many unique and wonderful stories, and we are excited to see mobile gamers be able to experience this new take on the Destiny universe from the creative team at NetEase," said Terry Redfield, Creative Lead at Bungie.

Destiny: Rising Brings Bungie's MMO to Mobile

NetEase's new shooter will be set following The Collapse, on a new timeline. NetEase promises some familiar faces (the trailer & keyart appears to include a young Ikora), but that many Lightbearers will have their own combat styles since this is prior to the formation of the Vanguard and the Titan, Hunter, and Warlock classes.

“With Destiny: Rising, NetEase Games is honored to partner with Bungie to deliver a Destiny-caliber experience to mobile devices,” said Ethan Wang, Senior Vice President at NetEase said via a press release. “Destiny is an incredible franchise with a passionate and dedicated global fanbase. As huge fans ourselves, we are humbled and thrilled for the opportunity to bring gamers an action-packed RPG shooter set within the Destiny Universe.”

The game will offer first and third-person combat, as well as controller support (time to grab the Backbone or Kishi, Guardians). It also promises new characters, including multiple playable ones - a big departure from the core Destiny experience which has players playing as their own bespoke Guardian.

Destiny: Rising has PvE and PvP content, including Strikes, along with shared social spaces, a clan system, and new areas that include Haven, Jiangshi, and the Red Sea Rift.

We've known a lot about Destiny: Rising from leaks, but I'm really excited to see if NetEase can stick the landing. Mobile spin-offs often feel thin and superfluous, but The Collapse is a pivotal era in Destiny. The idea of this being on a separate timeline has me a little concerned that it’ll feel too much like a side story, but if it can bring the action of Destiny to mobile I’ll be playing regardless.

Guardians can register for the pre-alpha test starting on November 1 at DestinyRising.com.
