Destiny 2: The Final Shape will conclude Destiny's 10-year-long The Light and Darkness Saga as Guardians face off against their final enemy - The Witness.
The Final Shape has been a long time coming, and its release will be a pivotal moment in Destiny 2. A lot is riding on this expansion, and we know you want to know everything there is to know about it. Hence, we have curated this article, which includes all the info on Destiny 2: The Final Shape, including its release date, new location, enemies, weapons, and everything else.
What Is The Release Date Of Destiny 2 The Final Shape
Destiny 2: The Final Shape releases on February 27, 2024 for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S. You can pre-order the game's standard edition, the annual pass edition, or the collector's edition from the Bungie store or the storefront of your preferred platform.
Has The Final Shape Been Delayed
NOTE - Following layoffs at Bungie, several reports suggested that the company could delay the release of the Destiny 2 expansion, however, a recent press release (on November 14) still states it will launch on February 27, 2023.
That being said, the ever reliable reporter Jason Schreier has sources close to the development team who expect a delay from February 2024 to June 2024. Time will tell.
The Final Shape Location & Setting
Unlike previous Destiny 2 expansions, The Final Shape won't add a new planet for you to explore. Instead, it will take you inside the Traveller and into its "pale heart." It's an evolving space that features areas from your adventures throughout the Light and Darkness Saga, including the D1 tower.
The Pale Heart is Destiny 2's first linear destination and will transform rapidly as you progress further into the story. As you make your way to the monolith, the final destination stop on the Pale Heart, the environments will evolve into something truly menacing.
The Pale Heart will change after you finish the campaign, presumably like Dreaming City did after the events of Forsaken. Bungie also confirmed that the entire location will open up and become an explorable destination after you have beaten the campaign.
New Enemy Types in Destiny 2 The Final Shape
While there won't be any new enemy factions, The Final Shape will add new enemy types. The ones confirmed so far are called Subjugators, which look like smaller footsoldiers based on Lightfall's deadly Tormentors. We imagine they'll be somewhat similar to Witch Queen's Hive Lightbearers.
Subjugators are incredibly tall, just like Rhulk, Disciple of the Witness, who you may remember from the Vow of the Disciple Raid. They wield these Stasis and Strand elemental Spears and can deal devastating damage from a distance. It seems they can also control the smaller enemies and turn the tides of the battle in their favor.
New Weapons in Destiny 2: The Final Shape
With every Destiny expansion comes a host of new unique-looking and functioning weapons. The Final Shape will be no different, and thankfully, Bungie has already confirmed a bunch of new and returning exotic weapons.
These are:
- Tesselation Exotic Fusion Rifle (only available by pre-ordering)
- Red Dead Exotic Pulse Rifle (returning weapon)
- Dragon’s Breath Exotic Rocket Launcher (returning weapon)
- Khovstov 7G-OX Exotic Auto Rifle (returning weapon)
In addition to these, there will be an Exotic Sidearm that shoots homing missiles and an Exotic Support Auto Rifle that can heal team members.
The Final Shape's New Supers
Titan (Void): Twilight Arsenal
- Throw three Void axes that pull enemies in and explode, dealing heavy damage and weakening anything left standing.
- Thrown axes can be picked up and wielded by the Titan and their fireteam as melee weapons.
Hunter (Arc): Storm's Edge
- Hurl an Arc dagger that teleports the Hunter forward, where they perform a deadly whirlwind strike as they materialize for massive damage.
- This can be executed three times per Super charge, allowing the Hunter to traverse vast distance and devastate enemies in their wake.
Warlock (Solar): Song of Flame
- Warlocks become radiant, overcharge their melee ability, and their grenade becomes a sentient Spirit of Flame that seeks out nearby enemies and explodes.
- Allies gain increased ability regeneration and damage resistance, with scorch applied to their Solar and Kinetic weapons.
The Final Shape's New Aspects
Titan (Void): Unbreakable
- Consume a grenade to create a shield that blocks incoming damage and absorbs attacks, which then can be released to deal massive damage.
Hunter (Arc): Ascension
- While airborne, Hunters can consume their class ability and propel themselves upwards to damage and jolt nearby enemies, while also amplifying their fireteam.
Warlock (Solar): Hellion
- Warlocks can activate their class ability to summon a Solar Soul that launches flaming mortars at distant foes, setting them ablaze.
And that's everything you need to know about Destiny 2: The Final Shape before launch.
