After a relatively slow few weeks, things are beginning to pick up for Destiny 2 with the release of the Solstice event as well as an intriguing leak that may have just revealed the game's next subclass ahead of the big showcase in August.
For those unaware, the annual Destiny 2 showcase takes place on 22 August 2023. It's expected to reveal details about the highly anticipated expansion, The Final Shape, alongside Destiny 2 Season 22.
Destiny 2 New Subclass Leaked Ahead of the August Showcase
The Final Shape is set to conclude Destiny 2's ongoing light and darkness saga. Narratively, the stakes have never been higher, even more so because everyone's favorite gunslinger, Cayde-6, is making his long-awaited return in this upcoming expansion.
However, in terms of gameplay changes and improvements, there hasn't been any info to go on until today with this new subclass leak.
This new leak appeared on Destiny2Leaks Subreddit, where the user posted a seven seconds clip showcasing a player spawning in the H.E.L.M. with a transmat effect. What's interesting is the abilities icon on the left. These don't look familiar, and the red bar underneath it suggests that it's something entirely new.
Will this be a Siva Subclass?
The red color has some players thinking it's the much-requested Siva subclass, which was also briefly mentioned in the Lightfall expansion and the Season of the Deep. Fans have been yearning for Siva to make a comeback for a long time, and a new subclass seems like the perfect way to do it. However, the Lightfall lore seems to indicate otherwise, and Bungie itself has recently suggested that Siva may never return to Destiny 2.
Irrespective of whether it's a Siva subclass, what's most interesting about this leak is the way this leak surfaced ahead of the upcoming showcase. Some fans may recall a similar incident last year that leaked the Strand class.
Assuming it's a new subclass, the red color suggests it will be another Darkness subclass. For those unaware, the colors of Destiny 2's Darkness subclasses have been an inversion of their Light counterparts, with Stasis for Solar, Strand for Void, and some fans believe that Arc's opposite will be this red-colored Darkness subclass.
Either way, players should take this info with a grain of salt since it's a leak. Thankfully, an official reveal should occur at the upcoming Destiny 2 showcase, alongside details on Cayde-6's role in The Final Shape expansion.
