At the ESL Studio venue in Stockholm, Sweden, the top eight Counter-Strike 2 (CS2) esports teams remaining at the ESL Pro League Season 21 event battled for their share of a huge prize pool, and the glory of lifting an S-Tier CS2 trophy. It was a wild ride, to say the least, with Team Falcons not even making it through the Group Stage.
In the Playoffs (the weekend of 13 to 16 March), defending champions (S19 and S20), MOUZ, kicked off proceedings with a reverse sweep against G2 Esports. MOUZ then went on to shock the crowd, eliminating favorites Team Spirit with a close 2-1 win, claiming a spot in the Grand Final.
On the other side of the bracket, Team Vitality, led by Dan "apEX" Madesclaire, beat Team Liquid with a relatively clean 2-0, then overcame an on-form The MongolZ side with a 2-1 win to make it to the Grand Final.
In the best-of-five Grand Final, Team Vitality's AWPer Mathieu "ZywOo" Herbaut was an unstoppable force, and Robin "ropz" Kool clicked heads with the best of them. In fact, all of Team Vitality stepped up to the plate to deliver one of the most convincing wins in an S-Tier event's Grand Final in recent memory.
Team Vitality beat MOUZ with a 13-9 on Dust2, a 13-4 on Nuke, and 13-5 on Inferno to quickly close out the series 3-0 and take a huge step towards a shot at the Intel Grand Slam. ZywOo got another MVP award, making him the most successful in CS esports history, one above s1mple.
We received a Press Release about Team Vitality's win and inside, there was quite an interesting quote from the organization's President and Co-Founder, Fabien "Neo" Devide, who spoke about ZywOo and the Intel Grand Slam. Check it out below:
This victory in the ESL Pro League Season 21 crowns an exceptional start to the year for our team. It's an immense source of pride to see the hard work, determination and talent of this roster rewarded in such a wonderful way. A special mention must go to our own ZywOo, who has become even more of a legend by becoming the most successful player in the history of the game. His career has been nothing short of monstrous, and we're incredibly proud of him.
Following our success at IEM Katowice, this victory confirms Team Vitality's place as one of the undisputed leaders on the Counter-Strike 2 scene. It also leaves us with a strong chance of winning the Grand Slam and joining the very select club of teams to have won all the major international awards.
Well done, Team Vitality, well done!
