Spirit Sweeps Liquid To Claim Semifinal Spot at Shanghai Major

In the first Quarterfinal match of the Perfect World Shanghai Major 2024, MOUZ eliminated The MongolZ with a 2-0 sweep. On 12 December 2024, the second Quarterfinal match of the day took place between Team Liquid and Team Spirit, the latter of which is one of the favorites to win the entire event.

In front of a huge crowd at the Shanghai Oriental Sports Center, we saw Team Liquid and Team Spirit clash. Here's what went down in our full CS2 match report!

Liquid vs. Spirit Match Report

On Team Liquid's map pick of Anubis, it was Team Spirit who found the first Pistol Round on the CT side. However, Team Liquid quickly retaliated to spot the conversion, win the 3rd round, and then extend their lead to 3-1. 

Despite some heroics from Danil "donk" Kryshkovets, Team Liquid kept chipping away at Team Spirit's economy and extending their lead. At the end of the first half, the perseverance from Leonid "chopper" Vishnyakov's side was clear as day, with Team Spirit pulling back to tie 6-6.

In the second half, Team Spirit took an early lead on the T side, thanks to an ace (all five kills) in the Pistol Round from non-other than Danil "donk" Kryshkovets. Team Liquid could only get another two rounds on the board, as Spirit ran away with it in the second half to win Anubis 13-9.

On Team Spirit's map pick of Dust2, the Russian side got off to a strong start, claiming a 4-1 lead before Team Liquid put a second round on the board. While most of the first half was a back-and-forth affair, Spirit managed to maintain a slight lead of 7-5 as teams switched sides.

On the T side of Dust2, Team Liquid's IGL, Russel "Twistzz" Van Dulken, led by example, scoring four kills in the Pistol Round to give his side a fighting chance. Unfortunately, Team Liquid then lost against a risky force buy, giving Spirit an 8-6 lead.

Despite a solid effort from Team Liquid, Team Spirit would not be denied a Semifinal spot, as they kept their cool on Dust2 to win 13-11 and the series 2-0.

With the win, Team Spirit eliminated Team Liquid from the Shanghai Major. Team Spirit will now face MOUZ in the first Semifinal match on Saturday, 14 December 2024, and we can't wait to see who wins.
