Civilization 7 will be packed with over thirty different civs to choose from across three unique eras, and the latest reveal puts a cap on a trio of China civ options that represent different dynasties in Chinese history. While players will still have the ability to create their own unique version of history, China is will be among the few with a consistent thread between each age for what is essentially the same civilization. Fans are still a few weeks away from getting to try the game out for themselves, but new details about Qing China have provided a unique insight on just one of many strategies players will be able to utilize in Civilization 7.
Civilization 7 Reveals Qing China to Complete Trifecta of Dynasties
One of the advantages to Civilization 7 separating leaders from civs is that many distinct civilizations that only existed during a specific period in history will now get represented in a new way. Unique additions like Hawai'i in the Exploration Age, Mississipian in the Antiquity Age, and Mexico in the Modern Age haven't made the cut in previous games but will get their own spotlight in Civ 7.
Another benefit of this separation is that now unique eras of the same civilization get represented in a more diverse way. While you could play as China in Civ 6 and see the architecture change over time, that was pretty much the only signifier of how China has evolved throughout history.
Now, players will be able to experience three different dynasties from China's storied history. Han China, a diplomatic and scientific civ featuring the Great Wall improvement and the Shì Dàfū scholar-bureaucrat unit, will be available in the Antiquity Age. Players can then become Ming China, an economic and scientific civ with the Mandarin merchant unit and Forbidden City wonder, when the Exploration Age begins.
Now, we know players will have Qing China as an option in the Modern Age. While it had been spotted in gameplay footage previously, the official Civilization 7 reveal of Qing China has now confirmed it as an economic expansionist civ. While Han China's unique ability boosted population and Ming's boosted science, Qing China becomes a balancing act of handling imported resources.
Qing China's unique ability Kang Qian Shengshi will increase the gold, culture, and influence that comes from imported resources. However, it will also decrease science. With strong scientific boosts early on, players seeking a science victory may end up with a different choice than Qing China or will need to be careful of how their imported resources are impacting things.
With the announcement of Qing China it completes the trio of dynasties, but it also brings the total officially revealed civ count up to 24. One recent stream confirmed that a total of 31 civs will be in the game at launch. While not officially confirmed, players have spotted Buganda, France, Meiji Japan, Mughal India, and Siam throughout gameplay footage and those are all expected to be revealed in the coming weeks. There are also six leaders yet to be given a formal reveal, so some of these civs will likely pair with those announcements as Civilization 7 draws near.
