On 15th January, also known as 115 Day, Black Ops developer Treyarch traditionally take a moment to share the news about Zombies, one of the legendary Cally of Duty modes originally introduced to the franchise with Call of Duty: World at War.
That tradition continues in 2021, with the new blog post by Treyarch, which gives us more details about Firebase Z, the new Zombies map that has been revealed yesterday and shares info on other new content and features set to come in Zombies in the following weeks.
Treyarch confirmed that the new map will be set in the jungles of Vietnam, something that was known for quite some time thanks to the leakers, and it will bring new characters, new enemies, and new gameplay mechanics. And, of course, a brand new Wonder Weapon.
Treyarch has shared new details about the story behind Firebase Z, which will be a continuation of the Dark Aether dimension story, and said that in the coming weeks we can expect more story details and new intel reveals, as well as the official gameplay trailer before the map's launch, which is set for 4th February.
In addition to the new map, more content is coming to Zombies as Season One continues.
New Zombies perk: Tombstone Soda

With the launch of Firebase Z, Black Ops Cold War Zombies will get a new, seventh Perk: Tombstone Soda.
"Tombstone Soda is all about manipulation and cheating the consequences of death," Treyarch explains. "And you'll need it against the forces waiting for you in Vietnam."
First featured in Black Ops II, this new Tombstone Soda will transform downed players directly into a shadow world within the Dark Aether, where they will have a chance to revive themselves. But if the shadow loses all its health, then you are definitely dead.
Of course, you can also invest Aetherium Crystals into your Tombstone Perk Skill, which will unlock you powerful upgrades:
- Tier I – Shadow form can regenerate health.
- Tier II – Increase downed duration to 60 seconds.
- Tier III – On death, drop a Tombstone stash that saves your weapons, equipment, and resources.
Tombstone Soda will come to the game on 4th February, and it will be available on both Firebase Z and Die Maschine.
