Call of Duty Black Ops 6 is gearing up to be an exciting release this year, with tons of new features like the Omnimovement system and the return of zombies. However, not all news is positive, as its Gunsmith system will include something we wished had stayed in previous titles.
If you’re curious to know exactly what the Gunsmith for Black Ops 6 will look like and what feature is returning that has fans groaning this early, then keep reading as we explore all the details below.
Call of Duty Black Ops 6 Will Continue A Polarizing Tradition For Its Gunsmith
In a recent post from Detonated on X (formerly Twitter), it was revealed that the Gunsmith system in Black Ops 6 will allow you to share optical attachments between weapons, and nothing else. This means that once you unlock an optical attachment, it will be available for every other gun you own.

Unfortunately, this also means that all other attachments are exclusive to each gun. Each gun will have around 50 of its attachments, all of which you have to unlock separately. This can be a massive effort, especially for more casual players who don't plan on grinding all day for specific stocks or barrels.
This feature was also largely criticized back in MW3 when players needed to unlock nearly 1,000 different attachments game-wide to access sometimes the same kind of attachment but on a different gun. The Prestige system doesn't mix well with this mechanic either, as it usually wipes your weapon progress, making it even more frustrating and causing most players to give up on grinding for the perfect gun.
Fans responded to this exactly how you would expect: "Oh yeah, can't wait to go through 20 weapon levels to use the one muzzle that works on every gun," one fan moaned on X. Other comments shared this distaste for the feature, highlighting it as one of the sore spots for Black Ops 6 if it isn't modified in any way to make the progression better.
Ultimately, we don't know how Treyarch plans to make changes to the Gunsmith if they plan on making any at all, and how it will interact with the Prestige system. But we're hopeful that they balance it or make it less grueling because as it stands, it's guaranteed to be a huge step back for Black Ops 6.
