In ARK Survival Ascended, capturing flying creatures presents various challenges, requiring players to adapt their strategies for each desired flying tame. If the prospect of streamlining your flying tame captures excites you, continue reading. Below, we'll provide a step-by-step guide on constructing a trap that works for any flying tame in ARK Survival Ascended, enabling you to soar through the skies effortlessly.
How To Trap Any Flying Creature in ARK Survival Ascended
At this point, you might have already checked out our guide on how to build an automatic Argentavis trap in ARK Survival Ascended. However, this trap only works on smaller flyers such as the Argentavis, and larger flyers could easily avoid this trap. Thankfully, the trap we're breaking down in this guide can be used for any kind of Tame and is just as easy, if not easier, to set up.
To begin its construction, you'll need four (at a minimum) large gate frames as well as two gate doors. From there, place the four gate frames in line behind each other, leaving enough space between the first frame and the two in the middle for you to pass through, and do the same for the fourth frame at the back.
Now, place a large gate door right at the back of one frame, and place the other door on the first frame, ensuring that the back gate is closed, and the first gate is open inwards, as shown in the image below. Now you're all set to begin trapping any flyer in the game, and the process works the same as the Argentavis trap.
Simply lure any flyer into the trap towards the back gate/frame, then turn right to exit the trap and move towards the front gate, which, since it's opened inward, will be easy to close from the side instead of having to run to the front of the structure to close. Once closed, the creature cannot escape it, and you're free to wail on it with tranquilizers until it's unconscious and ready to tame.
This trap can be used for larger tames as well, such as the Pteranodons and the Quetzal, and thanks to its easy construction, it can easily be placed in the wild while you're out looking for a tame. You can also extend the pillars slightly to accommodate larger prey, but be sure they aren't too widely spread since smaller tames could fit through the gaps and escape.
So there you have it, a quick and easy breakdown of how to craft a trap for catching any of the flyers in ARK Survival Ascended. All credit for this trap build and strategy goes to YouTuber Teachers Game Too, so be sure to check out their video above to see the trap in action.
